He's let in 3 goals in basically a game and a half. Lets take a look at the angles he was letting in on all 3....

Ok, lets just call it out. Horrible defense on the 1st and 3rd allowing a guy to park it like that in front of Koch to screen him that much. Seriously, what the hell, there's absolutely nothing Koch can do there except make a lucky save.

One thing he can do is assert himself at the top of the crease. He's too far back in his net considering where that shot is coming from, and his stance looks awfully "small" considering he's almost Andersen sized. The third image is closer to how he should be playing that shot.

Watching those replays back, the common theme in goals 1 and 3 is an apparent discomfort with close contact at the top of his crease. If he has to take playoff starts, that could be an issue.

Sometimes you just have to tip your cap. Maybe Koch could have covered a little more glove side, but there wasn't much that Hisch could shoot at, and he found twine.

That second one was a heck of a shot by Hischier not being able to put weight through his front skate because he's standing on Brady's stick blade.

When I look at Kochetkov's position, I don't see how you can move more glove side on Hischier. You can't give up any short side space with that positioning by Skjei.

Yeah better to make them work for glove side than give up an easy blocker side goal there. He chose the positioning that forces the shooter to make a great shot, and unfortunately that shooter happened to be Hischier. Glove side high. There's a reason it's a thing.

He'll likely get the start against the Rangers on Tuesday. Which will be a good trial for the playoffs. From what I've seen so far I think he could carry us for a round if we played well defensively, but I think we'll know more after that game.

Ward had a pretty rough regular season 3.68 GAA when he came in and won the Conn Smythe in 06. Anything is possible.

Also, I could have condensed these 2 into 1 post. I should delete my account.

A lot of people overlook what an incredible culture shock it is for such a young kid moving to a new country with a different language/culture, etc. It's like being dropped on another planet initially. Imagine when you were 22 just being dropped in Russia and not knowing any Russian language... Yes Koch has Svech for some support and google translate helps but it's still a huge adjustment that needs to be made. And as is true for anyone, big changes/stress like that in your personal life can absolutely affect your work. Yes to some degree going out and playing goalie here vs. in the KHL isn't much different (ice size, play styles, some rules, etc. are different but at the end of the day just gotta stop the puck). But those huge life changes are absolutely factoring in, and the more he gets settled here in NA, the more comfortable he'll be on the ice too.
“the more he gets settled here in NA”

He just needs to get invited to the Finns/Jarvis sauna and it will be all good!

Damn. I knew Wardo won the Conn Smythe but I had no idea he also won the Vezina in 06! Must have been a weak field to win it with only a 0.882 SV%.

Sara C quote about 20 minutes ago:

“My #sense is that the Hurricanes aren't going to have to make a goalie call up, riding out the last two games of the regular season as is. Reading between the lines we can assume it's not going to be horrible news on the Raanta front”

I haven’t seen anything about the other injuries though.

That's been my biggest hope is that since he thought he could gut through it and played a couple of minutes after that it's nothing too major. Still, we wait.

Matt Murray is tearing up the AHL this week for Texas, might be worth keeping an eye on...

But if this comes to pass, how will our front office learn its lesson?

Obviously would like Rants and Freddie to get healthy but I’m glad Koch can get some starts in and he hasn’t wilted.

I haven’t been able to catch the game but watching the highlights and seeing the screenshots… am I wrong in thinking Koch plays the net kind of small? Like he seems really hunched down and not covering a ton of the upper portions of the net.

Hey if it works it works but almost giving me some irbe vibes there a bit

Yes, let’s hope he stays in Texas.

Keep an eye on for when? He can't play for any team other than Ottawa for the remainder of the season.

I assume you’re probably joking but it’s not the same Matt Murray. This one just signed out of college.
Yes, sorry, different Matt Murray, 24, just signed an ATO I think out of UMass...sounds like we don't need to worry too much though.

Honestly, I say we let Coochie finish up the regular season (except B2B) and let Father Finn ride backup to make sure he's 100% healed up

I honestly think it’s nervousness/being out of his environment. He never played small in the K
