I feel the same way about the Talbot/Weekes/Henrik thing. I would like to see what Talbot can do for the rest of the year though before i say he is making a case for himself as a starter. If he keeps it up though management will have to take a long look at the future and present to see whats more important.

Can we win a cup now or the next 5-6 years? If management thinks so then keep Hank, if they doubt it then trade him, unless they think he can win playoff series by himself without scoring (if they dont fix the scoring that is) then keep him.

My opinion is that we need a bit of retooling on the offense and defense. This year imo is more like an observation year. I wont be surprised to see some guys gone or moved for younger or faster players to fit AVs system. I think AVs system will work here, if we had the finishers we would be fighting for 1st place imo.

So keep Hank and bring in some punch from the blueline and maybe a few wingers who can score. We arent that bad.

If Sather is using the same criteria (and he is), Lundqvist will be re-signed. Sather wants one more ring before he retires--that's why he came here in the first place.

who are the top goalies that are undrafted in NCAA? rather see us sign a goalie like that then spend a top 2 round pick on a goalie.

It is not an unusually good crop this year. A lot of ECHL level guys, a couple AHLers. No one I'd expect to be an NHL starter down the line, no guys like Scrivens or Kinkaid in the mix right now.

can anyone realistically see a cup in the next 5 years?

I do, but I'm a little more optimistic than usual.

quote honestly, that's what we need right now... Talbot is young, Hank is not very old... immediately speaking, we need an AHL goalie for the pack

I think Sather would make the argument and very honestly, he's the only one that matters.

The biggest problem with The Man Behind the Curtain's "vision" is that he's unable to stick to a particular plan--however, there is a lot of talent here and maybe this time he gets it right.

But, he's not giving up--he's in it until he wins it all.

Or passes on?

Before talking about trading Lundqvist, we need to see how Talbot can respond to high pressure games w/ quality chances against. And we also need a much higher sample size.

We've seen Talbot face lower end teams with the defense in front of him playing lights out defense. The shutout against MTL was easy, and I didn't think it could get much easier on a goaltender, and than the NSH game happened.

Right now, it's a good goaltender situation to have.

You have an elite goaltender capable of starting 60-70 games a season, and a reliable back up who can come in and win a game (albeit, the teams he is facing and the chances faced have been extremely limited, I almost feel as if we are sheltering him a little too much). But that is a GOOD situation to have.

In regards to the depth in the organization, you're right. This team needs more depth. If Lundqvist got injured, we have Talbot who isn't proven yet at the NHL level against top teams, or hasn't had a work load of 60+ games at an NHL level. If Talbot gets injured, you've got no one to give Lundqvist a rest over long stretches. They need a better third string goaltender. And they need to start drafting more goaltenders.

Lundqvist is only 3 years older than Talbot. Neither of them are what I'd call a kid. They need a young prospect who can come in and be a decent starter in a few years (like what Holtby was for the Capitals).

Not unless the forward core gets an overhaul.

Stepan can't be your best center. Richards, when he is on, is a #1 center, but he has shown inconsistencies even this season. Callahan is injury prone. Nash is our only legitimate first line winger.

The only thing about this team that can go the distance is their defensive core and goaltending. I have absolutely zero faith in their offense.

Look at a team like Chicago, and they have the defense, goaltending AND offense. Look at Pittsburgh, same thing. Boston? Check. Rangers aren't even in that realm.

The Blackburn pick was a good pick at the time. We had no one lined up to replace Mike, and Danny was a hell of a goalie for us during our terrible years. Kid was one of the few brightspots for the seasons he played. In my opinion, if it wasn't for his injury, we wouldn't have drafted Montoya, and it would have been a toss up between him and Hank.

Blackburn was that good, behind a terrible defense, and at the age of 19
