GMs To Get The Post-Season Axe

I struggle with this narrative when the team he built 3 different times were clearly good enough. Including building the best regular season team of all time. Other than the 2015 draft, there haven’t been crippling blunders he’s made that should get someone fired IMO.

At a certain point you blame the players for not coming through.

If Yzerman blows this off season again, then I’d love if the Wings replaced him with Sweeney
Any team would have a lot of regular season success with what he inherited. Pastrnak, Bergeron, Chara, Rask, Krejci, etc. Sweeney failed in filling in the gaps. For example Sweeney really struggled for multiple years to build a good line around Krejci. That was costly in the playoffs.

His deadline acquisitions have cost a lot of first round picks and his FA signings have been generally not very good. He doesn't understand the importance of speed. Even this season the team was too slow to be a decent factor.

Aside from a couple seasons over the past decade under Sweeney the Bruins have been one and done in playoff series. Had he not walked into such a great situation already on easy mode he would have been gone a long time ago. Hopefully Boston keeps employing him because they are now in a tricky situation with the core all but gone and a group of overpaid players Sweeney signed for years to come. Makes the Atlantic a bit easier with Boston being a non factor.

I know shanny is a president, but if he can see 10 years as president, the Yzerplan deserves a few more years atleast.

I've kind of disliked the Yzerman hire since Day 1, but I think it's going to take a #FireMillen frenzy level of disproval to get him on the hotseat.

I think the majority of casual Detroit sports fans that are happy to pack LCA and Ford Field even when the teams are garbage still see Yzerman as some messianic genius.

Kevyn Adams is more likely to be promoted than fired.

That is the state of Buffalo’s bullshit ownership at this time.

I mean Bergeron and Krejci were like 37/38 in 2022/23. And he was the one who got Krejci to come back

He drafted Mcavoy, Carlo, Swayman, signed Ullmark and Hall.

Absolutely stole Lindholm from Anaheim.

He certainly didn’t “inherit” that 2022/23 team. That was a Sweeny build. The team just simply blew it

The same could be said for 2019 really.

Not sure what you mean by one and done either. It was three 1st round exists, four 2nd round exists and a finals.

Toews: Drafted under Tallon
Kane: Drafted under Tallon
Sharp: Traded for by Tallon
Hossa: Signed by Tallon

You right. Those are four relatively unimportant pieces...
Never said that but picking the obvious picks at 1 and 3 isn’t exactly praiseworthy.

Keith, Seabrook, Byfuglien, Crawford were drafted by the Pulford regime.

Hossa wasn’t even signed by Tallon he was signed by Bowman. Tallon wanted to keep Havlat. You can’t say Tallon built that team without lying to yourself

Surprised Sweeney hasn't been mentioned.
I was just going to pose this too. I wouldn't let him and Neely drive the duck boats on the Charles nevermind a retool/rebuild alas I read somewhere Don is married into the Jacobs family.

The problem with Sweeney and Neely is for every Hampus Lindhom steal there is a David Backes contract, Jake De Brusk underwhelming stint, Swayman saga (should have kept Ullmark and shipped out Golden Boy), firing two coaches who go onto better things and that Mitchell turd pick that when I lived there the city was pissed about.

Yet he's Teflon Don along with Cam.

Ron Francis should be gone. For a guy that is pro-analytics his moves are the opposite. The Grubauer contract? Awful. Stephenson? Awful. The only thing he is good at is really his drafting. I think Yzerman should get another year (poor pro scouting), Verbeek also but should probably hire another coach (also a poor pro scout), Drury should be gone, Lou (not selling when his team has the worst roster in the NHL skill wise), and Fitzgerald for not creating a contending team (Signed Hamilton and Pesce, with on two playoff appearances)

It will surprise me if they let Ron "there are no trades available because I didn't attempt to make any" Francis stay on another season. The Kraken are now firmly mired in long-term mediocrity without any real glimmer of hope of becoming a top-10 team. Seattle fans deserve better. Great stadium, great fans, great location to attract FAs, and owners with access to plenty of cash, the only thing that really stands in the way of their success is Francis.
