If they couldn't win in 2011, a season where virtually everything except for Malhotra went their way, they were never going to win. I've just made peace with that. Now the league expanding further and the talent is getting even more diluted.

That 2009-2012 period was utter bullshit. The most dominant Vancouver Canucks team in 55 years and it came during a very competitive era.

You had a generational Blackhawks team get in the way of this franchise 3 consecutive years. The Bruins team was probably the most well-rounded team in the post-cap era with insane depth at center, defense and a goaltender who decided to peak in 2011. For good measure, you saw this franchise go against the best #8 seed to make the playoffs in 2012 which pretty much finished off that 4 year window.

At some point, the odds are just too stacked against you. To lose 3 out of our 4 starting centers the way we have, it's just not meant to be. Would love to win tonight, but can't see it.

There's a stat for almost everything in the NHL. I'd love to know the last time a team overcame a five point deficit with just 10 games remaining on the schedule--and actually made the playoffs?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's happened only once or twice since the NHL adopted three point OT games. I also wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's 'never happened'.

Even with all hands on deck--the task is daunting. Without your top-two centers and a lineup sprinkled with AHL callups--basically forget about it.

The Islanders did it just last season, but yeah they weren't facing injury concerns

That playoff run absolutely gutted our depth, I wouldn’t say everything went right that season. I think there were more banged up guys playing for us in the Finals than healthy.

The amount of travel we do in comparison to any Eastern team is a ludicrous disadvantage.

As I recall:

Samuelsson - Out for the playoffs during Nashville series
Kesler - Torn hip labrum
Higgins - Broken foot
Raymond - Out for playoffs after Game 6 vs Bruins
Malhotra - Puck to eye

Ehrhoff - Separated Shoulder
Hamhuis - Out for playoffs after Game 1 vs Bruins
Edler - Broken Hand
Bieksa - MCL sprain
Rome - Suspender after Game 3 vs Bruins

Maybe we still hang on if Hamhuis never hip checks Lucic, or if Boychuk gets called for the major he deserved for his hit on Raymond.

Considering the sheer number of injuries we accumulated throughout the playoffs, to the point every single one of our top six and top four except for Samuelsson, was injured. I dunno if I'd say everything went our way. Speaking of that, you just have to love the sick irony of the hockey gods. The near perpetually injured Samuelsson is healthy the ONE TIME nobody else is.

I'll forever maintain we beat Boston if not for Kesler barely able to skate and Hamhuis being knocked out in game 1. Just one of them changes that series instantly. Alas, c'est la vie.
