As a general philosophical principal I agree. However, given that this is our defensive unit and there is no improving it now, I am hoping we manage to get some players some rest, Cole especially. Myers should be able to handle some minutes in that regard.

you don’t even need to sit Hughes. Play him like 15-17 minutes a game vs the weaker opposition. Give him favourable match ups. Dress 7 defenseman if you have to. I can assure you once the playoffs start he’s going to be averaging 28-30 minutes a game in regulation.

The thing is I don’t believe Tocchet knows how to actually reduce guys ice time effectively. He says he wants to but never really does and they end up actually playing more.
