It'll be 3 games in 4 nights on a b2b, while Calgary has 3 days off. Wonderful.

Hoping that Hughes is back for the Calgary game.

Boeser Not Having an “A”
  • There’s a couple members of the media that weren’t at the scrum but Tocchet wishes they were because he wanted to let them know that the Canucks didn’t disrespect Boeser with him not having an “A”
  • Have been rotating the “A”s
  • Mentions Myers, Garland, and Boeser wearing it; Forbort could wear one
  • They are not disrespecting an 8-9 year guy; media member trying to cause problems
  • Some members of the media try to cause crap all the time
  • Played a half-decent game last night and should be focused on that but instead there’s a narrative being pushed about disrespecting Boeser and a “stupid A”
  • Tocchet is visibly upset and frustrated; says it makes it tough to talk to some members of the media
Last Night’s Comments
  • It’s a new day today
  • Are in a dog fight and need players to have some desperation in their game; didn’t see that from some players last night
  • Can see that Hoglander is fighting to get his ice time
  • Hockey is all about body position and need to get into the proper habits
Hughes
  • Would have been at practice today
  • Is progressing and could be ready to go at any time
  • At this point, he’s missed enough time that the coaching staff feels like they need to see him in a practice before clearing him to play
  • He pushed himself harder today
50/50 Puck Battles
  • Dallas didn’t have a lot of shots
  • There are 8 50/50 puck battles and the Canucks lost 7 of them; if you can win half then that’s 3-4 extra positions
  • Sometimes you have a tough night and need to be reminded
Where the Team Is At
  • Have dealt with a lot this season and will take the positive mindset; despite everything they are still in the thick of a playoff race
  • It’s Tocchet’s job to get the best version out of this team
  • 8 points available this week and need to get going
  • Need to play some 60 minute games
  • Are defending the puck pretty well but that doesn’t mean you shut down your own offense
Montreal Canadiens
  • Are a young, fast team
Demko
  • Doesn’t have an exact number for the amount of practices for him before he’s activated
  • Somewhere in the 2-3-4 practice ranger
  • If there’s a guy that can play without much practice time, it’s him; that’s not a recipe they want to use on him, though
  • Thinks they can rely on him
  • Has sorted out different rehab stuff and Demko is feeling really positive
  • Has lingered on and initially convinced himself it was a tweak
Silovs
  • Was important to get into some game action in Abbotsford
  • Not sure which game he’ll play of the back-to-backs
  • Need to win a lot of games and need to make sure everyone is sharp
  • Because of the schedule isn’t sure if he’ll play another game in the AHL this week but want to get him as much game action as possible
Load Management
  • A lot of factors go into playing a goal twice in a back-to-back
  • Shot volume, stress in front of the net, etc. all contribute

well at least some good news with Demko

These back-to-backs can be a killer at this time of the year. Tomorrow night at home against the Habs; then a road-game in Calgary the next night.

And looking ahead to the weekend, it's 'back-to-back' in Vancouver against the Hawks and the Utah Hockey Club. The Canucks record in back-to-back has been mostly dismal all season.

Part of the problem of course is that without Demko, they've been forced to play Silovs in the second-half of these games. And to say he's 'struggled' is to put it mildly.

Maybe it's time to think about giving Tolopilo a game? How can it get much worse? They need at least three out of four wins to hang in the playoff race, after going 3-5 coming out of the Four Nations break.
