There is a 0% chance Forbort comes out of the lineup in favour of EP2, and that’s how it should be. Forbort has been absolutely terrific for the last month and gives us a better chance to win hockey games.
Well, Forbort is going back to playing 10-12 minutes a game once Hughes is back anyway. I also think EP25 and Soucy have been playing really well together.I don’t know about this — Forbort is playing much harder minutes than EP2 right now, and coming out ahead. The team is in a dogfight to make the playoffs, and there’s no way Toc will favor development over safety on defence
As well as he's played, I still think Forbort needs someone faster and less volatile to offset his speed disadvantage, personally, even on a third pairing. We won't know until we try it, but I can picture disaster moments from that pairing.I don’t really see an issue with Forbort-Soucy as a bottom pair. The minutes will be light and they will load on the PK.
What, and which one? What are these Elias Pettersson rumours on Twitter? Guy on post game brought it up.
I think it has a lot to do with icing a competent blueline so you can play a more uptempo style.Tocchet seems to have had a mid season coaching revelation, too. No longer being a super hardass on certain things, and has seemed to relax the dump and chase. Seems to have realized something and pivoted his focus from pure defensive staples to keeping our foot to the pedal and getting to the inside.
Also interesting he has practiced less and is letting the vibes flow. Definitely feels like he’s taking a bit of a new approach.
Now fix the PP!
Yep, was going to edit the post to include this too. It has changed the way we move up the ice.I think it has a lot to do with icing a competent blueline so you can play a more uptempo style.

Coaches turtle too. When you know your D is AHL grade you require them to simplify the game which in turn takes the creativity out of it. Then it feeds on itself. At the beginning of the year, they were trying to work in more of a transition offense. But it became clear that this was a style that didn't work with our Ents so it was abandoned. It just seems like Tocchet is giving it another try now that the blueline isn't crap anymore.Yep, was going to edit the post to include this too. It has changed the way we move up the ice.
You might be singing a different tune had that big slap shot went post and in. Except Soucy won’t see PK minutes. He already does not, unless one of Myers, M Petterson, Hronek, or Forbort are in the box.I don’t really see an issue with Forbort-Soucy as a bottom pair. The minutes will be light and they will load on the PK.

Maybe, but I do have some concerns about Hronek reverting back to playing the way he sometimes does by deferring to Hughes too much.Given how well Pettersson-Myers has worked it is just way too easy for Tocchet to put Hughes-Hronek back together and have a true top four running like he wants. I’d be extremely surprised if that’s not how it shakes out.
Everything else sounds way too cute to me.
Don't forget perimeter, add that to slow and it's just going to be more of the same. Watch them f*** it up further and sign their two Local Heroes to the same cap hit I betLeafs are a sloooooooooooow, old team. Hard to imagine them doing much of anything in the playoffs.
Just continuously rotate them each guy gets two games in a row rotateMy only concern is how a Forbort-Soucy pairing will fair. Pettersson’s zone exits and offensive zone work are far better than Forbort’s which has allowed Soucy to play to his strengths. I’m a little concerned that their pairing would get cratered.
That said, there’s no way Forbort is scratched. He’s getting top-4 minutes and not looking out of place. I wouldn’t be opposed to a rotation to keep him fresh, however.
I wouldn't mind letting EP2 marinate as the top call up/ top pairing in the AHL just don't want him sitting/stagnating.There is a 0% chance Forbort comes out of the lineup in favour of EP2, and that’s how it should be. Forbort might be the team’s best pK. Certainly in our 4 D.Well, Forbort is going back to playing 10-12 minutes a game once Hughes is back anyway. I also think EP25 and Soucy have been playing really well together.
Maybe they'll have to alternate between the three of them (Soucy, Forbort and EP). Everyone plays two games, sits out the third.
