Young Ohlund was fantastic, if he hadn't had the eye injury his number would be in the rafters here.
I have a memory of him getting an early opportunity on the power play, and he wired a few from the point without hesitation. The Canucks had been mired in power-play struggles (sound familiar?) and the crowd went joyous-crazy at the sight of someone decisive.

It’s funny, a lot of, a lot of ppl have mentioned Edler, but I see more Ohlund . Especially when you see EP25 in person, in gear, he is thick like Ohlund.
Totally. Edler was heavy too (remember the Shane Doan comments?) but he did not body guys off the puck early in his career like Pettersson is doing. Whereas my memories of Ohlund were that he always looked like a vet and he would always play the body first if it made sense.

Who is the last rookie Canuck defender to come in a play as assertively on defence as Pettersson? Know some people have mentioned Edler, but while he stood out with the puck on his stick, he was way more passive/tentative defensively to start. Maybe Ohlund?
Ryan Stanton

Blaming the system for Pettersson not carrying the puck or attacking defenders is a bit odd considering you have Tocchet on a near-daily basis talking about how Pettersson has to carry the puck and attack the middle of the ice like McDavid and MacKinnon. Like, Tocchet is (figuratively) pulling his hair out watching this. It isn’t what he’s being coached to do.

Marcus Pettersson is having such an instant calming impact on this D core it doesn’t feel real.

And he came in with such a physical presence, he wasn't intimidated by anybody or any situation. He still could have helped them in 2011, it was a mistake letting him leave.

Yep. There's nobody to blame for Pettersson but Pettersson himself. I don't know why there are some who want something to cling to when it comes to him and his frighteningly underwhelming play. I guess because it's tough to accept this is what has become of our young franchise centre. To a degree I sympathize I guess.
