A healthy Quinn Hughes would dominate the Red Wings. Canucks are killing them, apart from an extremely poor opening 10 minutes of the 2nd.

Also, Marcus Pettersson looks like a perfect fit. Whether he ends up with Myers or Hronek, that looks a very good 2nd pairing.
Hughes has missed games against the Kraken (2x), Flames, Predators and Red Wings.

He easily would’ve collected 7-8 points in those games, giving him a 10 point lead in the defenceman scoring race and putting him 5-6th in league scoring.

Injuries are the only thing stopping him from literally winning the Hart this season.

I get that Petey is having a quiet game. But we have such an emotional fan base.

Part of it I understand. People were/are attached to J.T. and upset by their perception that he did nothing wrong and they think Petey is 'soft' or whatever.

But this is chess, not checkers. Petey has shown himself to be a top ten center in this league.

He's struggling, and his shot and skating pace have plummeted because he's struggling through injury and not handling it well.

All of this points to injury. This isn't Space Jam. He didn't suddenly, permanently, lose his skills.

But I don't think he's going to look like himself until next year. I think he'll figure it out like he did when Miller was out for 10 games and be productive but not dynamic until next year.

If you need him to dominate every shift or else you need to scream to the heavens about how bad he is and how cooked our team is then it's going to be a long and exhausting year for you.
I don't think he's going to get until next year. He's been playing like this for almost a year already, who's to say it doesn't continue? Id rather trade him while we still have control over where he goes and not get into another situation where the GM is using the media to pressure someone to waive their nmc

I feel like Pete guys are about to move the goal posts more and more. The whole “15pts in 10 games!” argument immediately shifted to, guys “give him a year” is wild.

Honestly reminds me of a certain cult of orange that likes to do the same.
Well TBF Quinn isnt here today. But damaged goods poor mans 2C is outperforming him

Honestly if we could get a a guy Dobson + roster player for a guy like Petey do we say no?

Maybe we should build a team from the defense out, and roll out speedy two way forwards ala Vegas pre Eichel.

Honestly, I don’t wanna be rude or anything, I appreciate the post, but Petey has not been a number one centre or a top player in this league for almost a year.

And some people would argue longer than that.

And this is right before signing the contract, and after including the playoffs.

We’re halfway through the season already.

I do agree that Rick has coached a lot of creativity away from him though

I get the message but the dude has either checked out or has lost all of his skills.

He was also a part of the locker room problem.

Let’s move on from this Benning “stink” for good

Noticing now that the Miller being a bully excuse is gone, we're fully back on the injury excuse. Did we drop the "Not playing with Hughes enough" excuse as well, or are we sticking with that too once Hughes is back? How about wingers? Is Boeser and DeBrusk, not on his wings tonight?

The excuses will never end.

The top line can be summed up by a simple play. Pettersson dumps the puck in with a hard around and both Brock and Debrusk leisurely skate in and let the defence on the wings retrieve and have an easy clear…

Now I agree and wish Pettersson would try and make something happen more… but this is the obvious game plan, so can we please put Sherwood back with Petey…. I don’t care who comes off that line but come on.

Also after all we heard about keeping d pairs on their sides, to keep Juulsen in and having him paired with a second RHD… it’s painful.

Too many excuses for Petey

He's just not that good. This sudden emergence of Pettersson ain't gonna happen and I stand by it. All this excuse about Miller affecting him makes no sense because he should want to perform especially during the playoffs last year but he disappeared.

He just doesn't have the drive that other 10 million + players have.
"He's just not that good".

He's one of 15 ppg players in the league and has a 100 point year. He's having a bad year. These are two separate facts.

life without quinn hughes

It’s not like Pettersson has be struggling for a game or two…. It’s been a full year of this.

The injury excuses are such major cope at this time.

Pettersson literally said "I want the pressure."

Does this sound like a guy who's injured?

Didn't he literally miss games a few weeks ago? And then he... wait for it... came back.

Why would he come back if he was still injured?

The degenerative tendonitis storyline is one of the biggest copium's I've seen from this fanbase ever.

It’s drive man, he doesn’t have it.

I agree with @MS that the top-line is missing a digger.

I’d probably shift Joshua down to the third line with Suter, the choose either O’Connor or Sherwood, then move one of DeBrusk or Boeser down with Chytil and Garland. Way more balance that way.
