Not this year. He's 50th percentile in terms of speed now (down from 94th two years ago).
Petey was never a great skater. I’m positive you are citing top speed for that 94th percentile.

Pete’s top speed was 23.31kpm. That’s all fine and dandy, but he only broke 22+kpm 2 times that year. 3 times all last year.

As a reference, Draisaitl is pacing to break 22+ 17 times this year. Mackinnon had 118 bursts over 22kpm last year. Miller had 21 last year and he’s not a fast skater by any means.

Pete has always been a poor accelerator and weak edge work. His top speed, once he gets going is fine. But acceleration and edges is what makes someone a great skater.

At this point if you can't even beat the red wings... you try to make moves for next season IMO.

Try and make moves for next season and build for next year... I've kind of given up on this season. Too many injuries, bad luck, and chemistry is just off.

Disagree. He always had an awkward stride and poor edges, but while he never had elite acceleration like the McDavid and MacKinnon’s, early career Petey had a good first step that allowed him separation and space he’s no longer finding.

If you look at the same data, sure he only had 2 bursts over 22, but he had 153 in the 20-22 range, which was 90th percentile. This year, he’s had 52 in the 20-22 range, which is 56th percentile. You used to see him gain the puck in the defensive zone and immediately go the other way with speed, and we’re not seeing that anymore
