GDT: GM49: Caps @ Nucks - 7pm PST

We’ve been talking recently about them winning games they probably don’t deserve to win with their play, and this was the flip side, I thought they looked good tonight and most nights they play like this they should probably come away with a W. Their goalie played great and a top 10 player in the league stepped up and did what he does to get them their goals.

I think the break is going to do wonders for them, especially Ovechkin. When he was younger and was going through scoring droughts he would engage more physically to reconnect with the game, and now that he’s older that just isn’t a thing anymore. I also don’t think he was bad tonight, I think Strome looked better too.

Are we really gonna knit pick about OV? Any player near to age 40 playing in the NHL, it's always a challenge to have your good game for an 82 game season.

7th road regulation loss on the season, which is 2nd in the league to the Wild's 5.

Yes...you're nitpicking Alexa's wardrobe FFS...and you're nickname for her: Cringy.

Ovi has been bad the past 3-4 games. Yeah, I get he's old and performance isn't linear, but if you're sucking and hurting your line, you get called out.

Give OV a break. He broke his leg. He is chasing a scoring record. Huge wegitb on him.

But yes, he is lazy at times. Give him on my team right now.
I recall watching some analysis a few years back here in Canada on TSN or SN and they were analyzing Crosby's play away from the puck.

They praised Crosby's coasting as "conserving energy"!!

I'm absolutely fine with Ovi "conserving energy" so he can do all theing he still does great!

He started the season exactly the same way. Looking like ass. Then he picked it up and was looking great. He has gone back to looking like ass since he came back from the injury.

Ovi is always hot/cold. Patience everyone, and he'll go on another tear. Like always.

Agreed. I also think that at times it’s almost unfair he is depended on to be a first line player at 39. It’s hard to be consistent at that age and at that level. I hope next year they have him in a position where he doesn’t have as much pressure on him to score.

Yeah - I think he should be on the 2nd line by now. I also don't think he should get the full 2 mins of PP. But the counter argument is that he expends very little energy on the PP so it's not like he is going to be "better rested" for his 5v5 shifts.

Ovy will get what he wants with this stuff. Where he wants to play, and how much time on the PP.

We should all know that by now?

I was reluctant to suggest that Ovie dictates his playing time. Maybe I'm being naive, but I would like to think that the coaches and trainers etc would be making those decisions?

There should be a balance between his ice time / effectiveness / winning games. I understand he is chasing an incredible record, but it shouldn't be to the detriment of the team (and so far it doesn't appear to be anyway).

And as mentioned he's 6th in even strength TOI.
