Honestly, not sure. I didn't have a console for 13 years.

NHL 23 was my first since 2010. Picked up 24 a few months after it's release, and the gameplay is largely the same as 23.

No argument there, both guys can be decent over short stretches, but they are also both liable to throw up absolute turds at any time.

It doesn't translate to the broadcast very well, but I think the main reason for his diminished play is that he just screams uninterruptedly the entire game without taking a breath.
