I know I keep mentioning it, but bringing back either of those guys would have changed the fortunes of this team a lot. If only we had used the myers money to bring back Zads.

But of course, we can't go with the more competent defenceman when we could just play worse players .... but since they're on their strong side they're going to be 2x better. Right? Right? RHS/LHS obsession on defence in the league is out of control.
There's a small contingent on here that swears Myers is decent and was worth bringing back. I'd like to believe they're trolling. Myers has had MOMENTS within a game of decent play but he's been trash for the vast majority of his tenure.

When his contract expired, I couldn't believe this team willingly brought him back. He was an abyss on the blue line for five years, they were finally free and chose to go back into bondage with him. I don't care if his price was the league minimum; ANYBODY would have been a better choice.

The fact they lost Zadorov for him is unforgivable.

Myers playing 16-17min a night is completely different than Myers playing 22-23min.

If we had a competent 2nd pair he'd likely be positive value anchoring the 3rd pair and eating pk minutes.

Yes, Tocchet sounded about as deflated in the post-game media scrum as I've ever heard him to be. At the 46-game mark of the season, he sounds like a coach out of answers.

He came about as close to admitting that he just doesn't have the players to play the system he wants them to play. And admitted they're consistently losing the zone-time battle in both the offensive and defensive zone--particularly in third periods.

Not very reassuring if you're a Canucks fan.

Tonight’s Game
  • A microcosm of the season; not getting the key moments
  • Two face-off goals when you’re up 2-1
  • Iced the puck on a play they should have connected on
  • Not protecting the middle of the ice
  • Go numb in key situations
  • Need to go straight line on one goal
  • On the last goal, two guys went on different routes
  • 2 goals in the guys of the ice; can’t happen
Demko
  • Made some good saves and was fine
  • Needs to get into a rhythm
Urgency
  • Doesn’t know if it’s a matter of urgency or hockey IQ
  • They defer when a bunch of good things are happening
  • Throwing the puck to the point when should be making a play
  • Coaching staff gets a little frustrated that they aren’t attacking the interior and are moving the puck back to the perimeter
Consistency
  • Is on the individual
  • Need to come to the rink and do the hard things and right things; sometimes they are lacking that
  • Making blind plays and giving the opponent chances
  • Some guys have to know their role; can’t always try to score when it’s not there
  • Need to flip their attitude or they’ll be in trouble
Pettersson
  • Thought his line was okay
Friedman
  • Gave them some minutes; he tried
Dump & Chase
  • To be a rush team, need all 5 guys skating
  • Need to move your feet and attack the interior
  • The defence has to get up in the play
Protecting the Lead
  • Pockets of some good stuff
  • When you are up 2-1 you should feel confident and want the puck but there are a few guys, could be 4-5-6 some nights, that just kind of stand around; almost like the moment is too big for them
  • Need to go back to the drawing board again
  • Need more big play moments to get themselves out of this

He's been over 20 minutes every season with Vancouver except one, last year, and that was 19 a night. He is not good.

The downfall of Soucy is really crazy to see, he went from being our best defenseman in his own end last season to the worst of the regulars this season, and that's not mentioning him being a blackhole offensively.

Honestly, this one of the few websites where I assume I am talking to humans most of the time.

I subscribe to the dead internet theory to some degree; most of Twitter is bots at this point, and any discussion on reddit relating to any political or current events is heavily astroturfed. R/Canada is particularly bad.

The internet had a good run, but as always, corporations, billionaires and governments have ruined it. Time to return to monke.
I deleted all my social media recently the bots were so obvious. I miss Myspace. Only use YouTube now I guess that's sorta social media but I stay out of the comments

Idk how much more dump & chase i can watch its so boring.
They dont make open passes all the time in favour of dump ins, that's gotta be coaching..

Looks exactly like the coyotes, and worse than travis green shockingly.

Hronek is not a smart hockey player. I would unload him in an instant for Byram if Buffalo wants a RD to compliment Dahlin Power. If you believe in Willander that is
He’s been pretty bad since returning. It’s a bit telling that he can’t really carry a pairing. His shot seems to have completely disappeared too. What happened?

terrible performance blowing a 1 goal lead and sitting back. havent wont b2b since late november early december against detroit and these same sabres. what a JOKE.

The team knows there will trades involving the core, and they play like it. Boeser will be gone, likely Miller too. Wouldn't be surprised if Demko is moved as well. And now it's like they're just waiting for the trades to happen. They have talent on paper, so I would not at all be surprised if they go on a tear after the deadline, like they have in the past, taking us out of the running for a chance at a top 3 pick. I really want them to blow it up this season, trade everyone not named Hughes. Cash in on a career year from Sherwood. Could get a nice haul for him, maybe even more than Boeser, given his bargain contract and style of play which is important come playoff time.

If they trade everyone we're going to lose Hughes regardless, he's not going to resign during a rebuild when he could go play with his brothers

Right, but you see average TOI for a season is just that, an average, so he has games above 20 and games below. In games where his minutes are limited, he is generally effective in his role.

I'm not suggesting he's great or a top 4, in fact I'm suggesting the opposite - he's a bottom pair defenceman being asked to do way too much by the team and getting exposed.

One thing I will say, some kind of illness is making its way through the locker room so it might be why some guys played poorly tonight.

But when most of the team looks lifeless most nights it's hard to make that excuse.

This team can self-motivate and perform against their rivals like Oilers.

This team can't seem to self-motivate against tired bottom feeding teams like the Sabres.

This is where the coaching should come in. They don't seem to be doing their job. The players are on their own most of the time.

Between the baffling losses, constant dumping the puck, Petey's offense dropping off the map, not knowing when to call a timeout, never pulling the goalie... I don't know how the coaching is not getting questioned more.

The Canucks should have been able to win this game with 3 orangutans behind the bench instead of NHL coaches.

If they can't get motivated to win this game when even a 75% effort would have gotten it done says a lot more about the players than anything else.

Pretty damn sure @M2Beezy & @SopelFanThe3rd are bots

i would give him a few more games to get up to speed. he was lights out before getting injured.

Locker room vibe check from Wyatt

- "Pettersson was totally fine, didn't have that same dour vibe over him from the JT Miller stuff, seemed okay."
- Demko is fun to talk to, very introspective. Smart guy, gives good insight.
- PDG didn't want to be there, pissed off, gave three answers then left.
- Tocchet clearly frustrated with team.
- Doesn't know if problem is the team/core or coaches. Team needs some changes.

Tocchet looks and sounds defeated. He's lost the room.

We need a new coach yesterday
The saddest thing about this season so far, isn't Tocchet sounding defeated. It's the night in and night out performance of Quinn Hughes.

One of the greatest players to ever to don Canuck colors and currently one of the most dynamic players in hockey. But his brilliance is almost totally wasted on this collection of stiffs littering this Canuck lineup.

Watching him play his guts out night after night, and still lose--now that's really depressing.
