Post-Game Talk: [GM46] Canucks lose to Sabres | 2-3 (PDG & Pettersson) | Stupid Cousins

This team can string together periods, or even games, of good play and then make the most boneheaded defensive breakdowns and coverage mistakes that always seem to end up in the back of the net. Not getting good enough goaltending from either guy to cover up for atrocious d-zone coverage and breakouts.

I am beginning to wonder if there are just too many stupid players on this team or what the heck is going on.

The stupid tonight was 43 twice unfortunately

On a serious note, we are heading straight towards the mushy no direction middle tier with Miller about to leave, mediocre pieces coming back, and Hughes up in 2 years. We’d be better off picking either direction and gunning hard for it, but it’s not obvious what we’re doing.

Very nearly got there. Some real lapses on those icings and Demko still isnt Demko so hes getting beat by things he wouldnt in the past. Last years goaltending and this is a win (not that I'm pinning it on him, but the gap between last and this years team save % is staggering).

Hronek and Garland both had empty nets and didnt connect... frustrating given who the opposition is and what the score was going into the third, but there were some positive signs too. We were whipping the puck around better 5 on 5, Pettersson way more engaged offensively and honestly couldve had a multipoint game with some of those passes. Not bad... hope they clean up the details for thursday and approach it like a playoff game.

(also add some reinforcement to the backs of your helmets in case the refs miss a call... never know when an Oiler is going to have a baby tantrum).

I thought we had gotten past Bozo Miller but he showed up again this year and keeps coming back. Like Miller on Saturday vs his listlessness tonight is a microcosm of the Canuck's play this season.

Soucy sucking and Myers being on the team at all has put too much pressure on the Hronek-Hughes pair this year and Hronek has only been back for what three games now.

We put the defence together by signing a bunch of 3rd pair depth. If Soucy were competent this season or if we had Cole/Zads that might have actually worked. But now we just have a bunch of #5-#6 to offset Hronek's injury and they just kept rolling out Soucy-Myers despite their lack of performance.

A lot of the malaise is reminiscent of Green era stuff. Not good. But it's more because of the lack of defence, it messes up everything from the offence to them collapsing instead of playing the trap.

First moves should be to sell Boeser, Demko and Suter asap.

Trade Miller in the summer.

Then it becomes the hard choice of maybe looking at trading Pettersson and Hughes if the retool doesn't look promising next season.

hughes was involved in pretty much all the plays tonight and was making magic happen, like playing skip rope at the edge of a skyscrapper on the blue line. and that icing was more on sherwood then hughes, it was straight at sherwood

That's possible, but Hughes so rarely has a "bad" game, that when it happens it's weird. Watch him bounce back on Thursday. That's the kind of guy he is.

On the plus side we are still only 1 point out of the playoffs. Big game on thursday, should have won this one but that's just hockey. Onto the next

I genuinely don't think there has been a single game this year where both Pettersson and Miller performed.

I haven’t been on much because can’t currently stand this team. Miller leaving is another Kesler 2.0 situation and it sucks for us fans again.

Every time we think we are getting better there’s something stupid that happens to set us back.

I honestly am starting to think the team is cursed and I won’t see a cup before I die. Which is honestly super sad to admit but this team always looks like there is hope but we take two steps back.

Sad times but what else is new for us Canuck fans since the 90s.
