They were having this inane discussion on Canucks Central (I think) about quality versus quantity shots, and how the Canucks were focused on quality. What a completely stupid discussion when you don't score goals, I mean who cares either way.

Anyway, the way LA plays they should run them out of the building.

These 2 teams have flipped early expectations:

- LA lost Doughty to a serious ankle injury, Kopitar was turning 37, the team lost on failed bet Dubois, got trounced by EDM in the playoffs, and Blake + Robitaille were getting cooked publicly for their offseason. Fast forward to now and they're 7th in P%, 6th in the west, with a +21 goal differential. Set to get Doughty back as well.

Contrast with:

- VAN adds efficiency (via metrics) and kept their top4 D intact. Had re-signed Pettersson long-term, and stabilized the crease with Lankinen. Tocchet wins the Jack Adams and Hughes the Norris. Took EDM to the limit (nominally), lionizing Allvin/JR along the way. Fast forward to now and they're 15th in P%, have a -11 goal differential, a media circus with Pettersson/Miller, and are presently out of a playoff spot.

What a difference half a season makes.

I think there's some merit to this. Tok preaches possession above anything else which means players are told to take only high percentage shots.

I know it's only Jan 16, but this feels like a HUGE game for me. Not just for the standings, but if the team does not come out with a really good effort here then I don't think that bodes well for the rest of the season. If nothing else, I think Hughes and Sherwood will have great games.

It's massive. There's no understating it. They have to start streaking to get themselves into a good spot. They've only had a handful of games with essentially full health (or max 1 guy missing) and they've not been good in those games.

It's different when you have 80 games of being relatively healthy last year so that you can better evaluate and then ignore or weight the worse performances less, but now that's all they have.

Also very curious about the attendance this next little bit. It's already been bad this year, but they've benefitted from early marquee matchups, the early season "haha they wont be shit on home ice for so long", and the holiday season.

But now they've just been bad on the road too, and the vibes are still bad

It definitely feels like a pivotal game because of our recent slide and the fact that we're chasing a divisional opponent. A few losses against teams like L.A. and our season might be lost sooner than later (not that I think a dream turnaround is realistic, but hope reigns eternal for me 😭)

First game back after an arduous and largely disappointing road-trip.....against a team that locks it down and gives up barely a couple of scoring chances every period

Not like the optics of this game for the Canucks--who've been mostly terrible on home ice.

This is what's gonna happen to the team for the next two games if not more:
