Post-Game Talk: [GM41] Canucks lose to Hurricanes | 0-2 | Pathetic Effort

What the heck happened to the offensive production? We should’ve gotten better offensively replacing Mikheyev & Lafferty with DeBusk, Sherwood, Heinen. This team needs to have a couple 8-3, 7-1 type games to get their mojo back and confidence going.

24/25
GF/G = 20th

23/24
GF/G = 6th

The defense being unable to move the puck happened to them.

I know they talk a good talk about coaching and management being on the same page and in lockstep about what they are trying to accomplish here, but if that's the case it's pretty baffling to me that they haven't done more to address the most obvious problems on this team...I think Brannstrom was an "attempt" to try and help, knowing that he likely wasn't the ultimate solution, but the coaches won't even give him a solid chance to fill a necessary role that they know isn't being filled by Forbort, or anyone else...and if Brannstrom isn't a player Tocchet can stomach in the lineup, for whatever reason...they still need someone who can move the puck better than their current available options...why not try players in the AHL? Especially if the trade route is too costly in their estimation...Isn't that generally what they are there for? Try Wolanin? Kudryatsev? Whoever has earned a cup of coffee...I like to see merit rewards, especially if the current lineup isn't really earning their place...It just frustrating to see them flushing a season down the drain with what appears to be a lack of exhausting every effort to shore up the areas of most obvious concern.

Yeah I hear you and many frustrated with the season. I think management is smart though and patient and realized their hands were tied with cap space and team alignment this year. They effectively decided to roll the dice and we're now hanging on while building for the future. Same thing I would have done to be honest. Build around Hughes. Throwing everything into this season impatiently would have ruined us for a long time. Finally a group that doesn't sell out every season, retains flexibility, and has a vision for the future. Doesn't make this year any better but we're actually still in it with huge upside and we're still looking for that piece to put us over the top. Personally I'm glad we didn't blow it already with desperate stop gap signings. Honestly, what move would you have made to make us a surefire winner?

I still don't think it's better to just try random garbage because we're not winning every game. It's not quite as simple as we need puck movers so any puck mover is a better option imo. Way to basic of thinking. If they suck they suck, it's a losing proposition to simply put a crap player in to increase puck moving like it's a slide video game option or something. In my experience you might as well give up if that's your approach. It's like giving up before you start.

IMO we made a bunch of "stopgap" signings in Myers, Forbort and Desharnais...so they tied their own hands with the cap and team alignment and they gave up their flexibility. For me, we are throwing the same "garbage" out over and over and expecting different results...if the idea is to just keep going without any changes to what hasn't been working, what are we even playing for? What's the point of having an AHL team if you can't use the players when things aren't working with the big club?

Yeah people see it differently and in hindsight it's easy to make criticisms. I see a professional GM approach where you have defense players signed but not to anchor contracts besides Hronek. All of our dmen are easily movable, measured with short term coverage, or expiring.

I guess we'll see the proof in the pudding if Brannstrom ever gets back in there. I'll eat my words if he's a difference maker. Throw everyone else in there including AHL guys, but I doubt it makes us any better personally. They're all garbage, just worse garbage. If only NHL hockey was so easy.

It has to mean something to actually coach these guys in real life and make decisions based on how good they are. I think the point is working with what you have and not giving up. When I read your stance it looks like you're out of options where I would hope the coaching staff is not. What if Brannstrom isn't the answer. What is you next move then, season's over, more AHL guys, Mynio?

Fair enough though I get what you're saying and I hope we see it just so people can see for themselves. There is probably a reason why at 25 he isn't starting in the NHL.

Honestly, I don't think Brannstrom is the answer to all that ails this team...I just think he's better than some of the alternatives being presented...we do have some puck moving/transition issues and we need a legit top 4 defenseman if we plan on making any noise in both the long and short term...and Brannstrom is not that guy, he is as stopgappy as stopgappy can be...hopefully Hronek is back soon and adds a lift, and they can get another top 4 defender from somewhere and we can roll on and never have to worry about Brannstrom being in or out of the lineup.
