That was a really entertaining game last night.

Washington this season is basically the 2023/2024 Vancouver Canucks in terms of metrics and Point Percentage, so it'll be interesting to see how this team responds following this game.

Overall we were the better team. The overtime gaffe was awful though. Three guys chasing Protas around.

Still getting those OTL though!

Myers in OT is hilariously bad coaching

I’d rather they just play 3 forwards

He doesn’t grasp the basics of possession and spacing. Like he dumped the puck in last game during a change. With OT and length. A single possession from a team could be 3 minutes easily and he just doesn’t understand basics.

That was an infuriating game to watch.

Dubois pretty much cheap shot Hughes.

Then at the end of the game. Tom Wilson was given a total pass to goon it up. He takes out Garland who is nowhere near the puck while the refs are looking at that f***ing direction. No call. In the leadup to that, Wilson basically shoved Garland after a whistle to which no one really took issue with. Myers made a half-assed attempt to act tough but wussed out. It was Juulsen that at the end decided to try and take action.

The officiating to this day is still total garbage. Refs one night will make all sorts of soft calls and then other nights permit 90's level goonery.

It's just a reoccurring story for this franchise. The team gets thugged and beat down physically, refs pile on and the other team gets rewarded with zero comeuppance.

It's sad to say but the only way forward for this team is to draft a generational player like McDavid or Matthews who is adored by the league and media.
It honestly feels like the inconsistency is going against us too. We play a team of PP merchants and they're calling the soft stuff. We're playing a team like the Panthers or the Capitals and the refs decide to "let them play." Maybe that's a privilege that's given to teams with an established identity?

Myers and DeBrusk in ot last night, Juulsen’s dumb icing. I was so mad man

Pretty well played game though. Washington’s goalie was good.

Prob a top 3-5 game we’ve played this season.

Issue with Hughes doing everything is his shot and final pass is being compromised. It's not like we have better options but it is effecting us negatively even if he's playing

Thought we outplayed the Caps and deserved better

They have some horses. Wilson Dubois Fehervary Chychrun Protas are pretty imposing figures. Even Ovy and Eller who are not as active anymore are freakishly strong

Debrusk is lacking in awareness. He ran out of gas and Myers passes him on the backcheck and then he still skates to the corner with the Giraffe now in front of him. Mental errors

That was a good game, although the first period there was 5-8 minutes or so where the team look VERY disjointed and chaotic with no rhyme or reason.

Also, I do dig the dark theme of the new upgraded site. Makes it much easier for me to hide the fact that I like to lurk on a hockey message board as an Orca fan in the middle of the night.

It is interesting how much this roster just doesn’t understand the basics of OT.

Last night was an another example
Like even just miller against Ottawa as another

Loses the faceoff on the opening draw
(which isn’t the end of the world)
But then he tried to hit sanderson in the open ice and he simply steps to the right to avoid the hit and now he just has to beat miller in a foot race where he has a 6 step lead and he scores 5 seconds later.

Garland gets it
Hughes gets it

So many players in this roster still treat it like 5v5

Team played well, good on Thompson for making some good saves.

I have no idea how Tom Wilson got away with blatant interference on Garland in the late 3rd.

I'll say it again, Tocchet is way too easy on the refs and I think the refs will continue to bend us over on 50/50 calls because he usually just complains a bit and then ends up nodding his head in agreement. Even Green and Boudreau were harder on the refs. Meanwhile guys like Evason lose their minds after every call and get a favourable whistle.

at the end, when juulsen got the offsetting penalty with wilson, i was like, awesome no juulsen in OT

and then when hughes took the double shift, i was like, omg he is going to try to play the entire five minutes. amazing

and then myers came on the ice and then the game ended

You know what's actually sad? I don't know who we can send out there besides Hughes!

It's almost like what they said in the movie Argo: "There're only bad options, it's about finding the best one." Though I myself would say "There're only bad options, it's about finding the LEAST bad one."

First, f*** this new forum format.

Second, pretty shocking Wilson doesn’t somehow get an extra penalty for hitting Garland without the puck behind the net. And it was 100% intentional because he was mad at Garland and was trying to get him back.
Not sure how that hit was any different than Hoglander's interference call the game before against the Habs. Both late game hit on guys that didn't have the puck away from the play.

NHL officiating continues to be inconsistent, unfortunately.

Was only casually watching it but jfc watching myers skate into the corner with debrusk and miller (?) almost made me throw my laptop. What in the actual f*** was he thinking???

I wouldn’t be upset if Ovi got another cup tbh and then broke the goal scoring record. Would instantly catapult him to top 5 greats of all time imo

Who was the team where we were the laughing stock of the league in OT?

Was it Gudbranson took out Horvat, and another forward was the behind net and tripped over the netting

Whatever the team was had a 3 on 0

Ya, although I think Wilson's was far more egregious.

You’re not going to believe it but….it was Tyler Myers 😂😂😂 also fun fact: it was JT Miller that got taken out

Myers is definitely not built for 3v3, it requires quick thinking and any mistakes are amplified big time, not ideal for him. His terrible accuracy with passing the puck doesn't help either.

What bothers me most about last night isn't the Chaos Giraffe being on the ice in OT, it's the fact that Jonathan Lekkerimaki didn't get a sniff.

I mean the Canucks are now 3-9 in OT games. How much worse can it get? At least Lekerimakki can hit a hole and actually beat a goaltender from distance. I mean seriously, what have you got to lose by giving the kid a chance?

Tocchet has landed this year with a 'dull thud' behind the bench. No imagination and seemingly fresh out of ideas. And as he pointed out rather plaintively in his post-game presser, "you can't play Hughes 30-plus minutes as night or for every minute of a five-minute OT". But sadly, that's about all he has.
