[GM38] Canucks lose to Predators | 0-3 | Will Never Score Again

Last year the Canucks got a lot out of guys like Blueger, Suter, Joshua, Hoglander, Di Giuseppe and some other guys on their third-fourth liners like Lafferty and Aman.

But at the end of the day, these guys would be classified as 'journeyman pro's', at least that's really what they've been this season. And they've reverted to what they probably were all along--replacement level players. And when you have to move them up in the lineup, you get what you get tonight.

Take Hughes, Pettersson and a disinterested Miller out of the equation and they're a 'lottery team', pure and simple.
most teams would be lottery teams if you took away their star players

basically the whole reason to trade JT is because of Zibanejad. they're the same age on the same contract. Zibanejad is a massive warning sign for us as we consider our own future. To trade for him would be insane.

i like it, cuts out the middleman

we also should trade demko for carey price’s LTIR cap hit

Tonight’s Game
  • Saros was really good tonight
  • Canucks had lots of chances; likes that they had 50 hits
  • Couldn’t get that big goal
  • Would have liked better decision making on the 6-on-5
  • Missing key guys in big moments
  • Calls outshooting the Predators a “moral victory” while shrugging
Lankinen
  • Doing his job really well
Last 11 Minutes
  • Had some chances to deliver the puck
  • Even if the other team blocks your shot, need to move your feet
Top-Line
  • When you want to score so much, forget to do the little things
  • Feeling the pressure
Offensive Zone Penalties
  • It could have hurt their momentum but isn’t sure
State of the Team
  • The defence is trying; everyone is trying
  • They didn’t score tonight but had some opportunities
Moments
  • Wanted to see a couple of guys reload on a 50/50 puck when their top line is on the ice
  • Should have been a 0-0 game going to OT
Powerplay
  • Not Myers’ fault; he’s shooting the puck and is doing a good job
  • There are other ways of scoring that don’t involved Hughes
Desharnais
  • Getting an opportunity and playing well
  • Has been getting better the last couple weeks
Miller
  • Always pressure on everybody; need to just keep plugging away; need to breakthrough somehow
  • The top line was just okay in Seattle and needed some pizzazz; other lines were good but needed to switch it up
  • Need somebody to do something in a big moment
Hughes, Pettersson, & Demko
  • Definitely expects Pettersson to play on the trip
  • Does not know on Hughes
  • Demko will be traveling on the road trip too
  • Would be shocked if all three didn’t play on the road trip
Hronek
  • Progressing really well
  • Has been working hard
  • Progress has heightened but doesn’t know where he’s at timeline wise
  • Has started shooting puck
Stamkos
  • Give him a chance and he’ll score
Joshua
  • Got banged up a little bit; doesn’t think it’s too serious

I think you’re underrating Blueger and Suter. They’ve been just as good this year and are very solid bottom 6 players. Jury is still out on Joshua since he obviously had quite the setback. The reality is that most teams are lottery teams without their best players. The forward core is actually pretty good if Pettersson and Miller are playing like they should.

Zibanejad’s is even worse too because it’s 500K more and completely buyout proof due to his signing bonuses

Was at the game. Went pretty much as i expected on these god forsaken back to back games where teams are left with little gas late and if are losing it's skating up steep slopes.

Too many missed tip opportunities and rebounds. Saros was excellent.

Thought Miller played well for 2 periods then ran out of gas. Both Debrusk and Boeser were poor and the rest were trying to play a grindy safe game and mostly did just that but couldn't provide some scoring relief.

Forbort Desharnais played their best games.
Myers was decent being saddled with Brisebois made things tough
Juulsen is so bad at moving the puck

I admittedly haven't been watching much since Hughes went out. Watching a bunch of journeymen dudes on the blueline trying to hold this team together gives me too much Benning PTSthreD.

Miller 100% needs to get it together though - he's pacing to three 5 on 5 goals this year. If management believes this is his new post 30 norm, you deal him now while other teams still believe in a rebound.

I didn't get to watch the game but from reading this thread it just sounds like a decimated team that ran out of gas on a back-to-back.

I'm not worried about results during this stretch, the only thing that worries me is that the guys who are injured are rushed back and don't look right and/or get injured again because they aren't fully healthy.

Management probably feels like their hands are tied because they are losing leverage everyday due to everything happening on and off the ice, albeit they deserve a fair share of blame for a lot of what has occurred.

To be honest, I thought they played a pretty good game tonight all things considered. Couldn't bury any of their chances and it was essentially a 1-0 game. Effort was there but you can clearly see the lack of talent (also Miller has to be injured too right?) and how they ran out of gas on a b2b

Most teams would struggle without their top pairing dmen, top C and starting goalie.

Saros was good, and overall the effort was better than I expected... except for Boeser and DeBrusk. Like, did those 2 even play? They should be picking up the slack right now, but instead they just no-showed as if they couldn't be bothered.

Well now the fun begins.

Bad news - next 10 game ... 8 against top 10 teams. 6 of them on the road. Lankinen is going to be very tired if Demko doesn't return soon.

good news - we should start getting our star players back. Demko injury appears to be back spasms. Our road record is good. Only one BTB on the trip. Though it's a hellish Car to Tor trip. But they do like to make things easy for Toronto since it is the centre of the universe.

They had many chances to score. Saros made some very nice saves. If some had those opportunities and not others. It's most definitely a different score line.

I look forward to seeing another management group make the same mistake as the last one.

Decent physical effort, they were goalied. They needed more out of Miller, and Tocchet should have admitted as much a little more bluntly. After the "moral victory" comment, Tocchet was one "that's a good team over there" away from morphing into his buddy, Travis Green.

I'm not a Tocchet fan but I gotta admit he's trying to coach an NHL team with a blindfold on and hands tied behind his back with the roster he currently has to work with. So gotta give him credit for always coming out and staying positive. Not an easy thing to do as a human being.

It's easy to be positive when things are going well.

DeBrusk has 4 points in his last 5 games and is our leading scorer on pace for nearly 35 goals.
