I guess I fundamentally disagree with the premise that young guys have to be playing top line minutes and special teams at all times or else they're regressing or stagnating.

I don't think they're planning on making him a 4th liner, but I do think that right now he helps the team the most when he is in a 4th or 3rd line role and his development is helped the most by playing that role. He's 20yo in his second pro season, he'll be fine

I think he's Russian therefore there's always a "but he's Russian" to everything you said. They don't develop well by getting buried in those roles for longer than like 10-15 game stretch. You have to find a special key to their players from a developmental and psychological POV if you get what I'm saying.

PLD does so many things well. Really appreciate his contributions, even if many of them don't show up in the standard game stats.

Totally agree, I don't care what anybody says about him, just those little things along the boards, in tight spaces that open up a shot or scoring chance 2-3 passes further - he's so great at it.

Disagree on CMM. You don’t play him in a position he is obviously uncomfortable with.
