Hopefully we're getting towards this with 9 and 40.

Toss Heinen on that list too, albeit for different reasons. I don't mind him as a player but spending 2M on a luxury instead of shopping for a better defenseman was a really boneheaded decision. Even Myers I would be fine with... if he's our 5th.

I just can't comprehend how they looked at this defense, even on paper, and thought, "Yep. That's Stanley Cup worthy."

And if their thought process was, "Eh, we'll fix it mid season with a trade." That's... a really stupid philosophy because now every team in the league wants to rip us off.
They got arrogant real fast and thought they could turn no talent monsters into good players

We stole a point there. That was ****ing putrid beyond Hughes & PDG. That was a classic Miller game: all offense and no defense.

We've got 1 defender and then we've got 5 defenders who barely deserve more than bottom pairing minutes. The shift shortly after we tied up at 4-4 summed it up, we were actually able to generate a forecheck turnover which allowed for Pettersson & Garland to get to work, and so they set up a zone entry, so they start throwing the puck around, looking for a high quality chance etc etc. And then the puck made it's way to the blue-line which I think was Desharnais and (definitely) Forbort. So Desharnais goes to pass it to Forbort, and blows the pass and Forbort isn't able to fix things up and the zone entry ends.

I don't know how the **** we ever score goals when Hughes isn't on the ice. I mean, I know we barely create anything, but man, that was a ****ing awful display

I don't know how the hell we make a trade to fix this, because obviously it can't be a rental D. We can't blow more assets on rentals because we'll be in the exact same spot this time next year. So if we can't get a D with term/term control, don't ****ing bother.

All of this is true. Its insane that this team has a half decent record when they have been putting forward performances like this on a regular basis.

Hughes and Lankinen have carried this team to this point. If this keeps up theyll be fortunate to squeak into a wildcard.

Hughes should be in contention for the Hart and Ted Lindsay trophies this season. He is truly something special.

Basically, they have to wait for next season and hope that two rookies and a traded defender and "shoulders" Hronek returns to form. There's no other options.
