This is only half correct, imo. Management has put together a D Corps that is terrible at puck movement in part due to Tocchet's own preference. He likes the bigger, less skilled crease clearers and puck movement is clearly a secondary concern. Just take a look at Brannstrom's recent ice time for reference.
Tocchet's system has also resulted in record breaking shot totals (to the negative) in the playoffs.
You can definitely criticize the coach and the D Corps. What they're doing is unacceptable.
If the low shot totals weren’t converting into goals over 3 different seasons, or there were consistent zone time issues, I could see the argument for why it’s a bigger problem.
Last year they won the zone time battle but were poor at generating shots - it’s clearly a part of their system and has generated a top 10 goals rate, so I don’t see the issue outside of people wanting to win the model game on top of the real game.
I’ve been screaming about puck moving being an issue since last year regardless, because it was a massive problem last year in generating rush chances, and this year it’s so awful it’s impeding on their zone time.
