First Period Struggles
  • They iced the puck 4 times when they shouldn’t have and it lead to 4 goals
  • Too nervous early
  • Dumping the puck and when they did give it to a winger they dump it in when they should hold on to it
  • The icing is inexcusable
  • Not just blaming the defence, it’s the forwards as well
Defence Pairings
  • Will have to talk to Foote
  • Weak-side was open a bunch of times but couldn’t exploit it
  • Kept jamming it up the strong-side
  • Shots getting blocked over and over
Not Executing the Strategy
  • Designed a play to use against the Bruins and didn’t do it until the 3rd
  • Pisses the staff off because they had a good gameplan but when you chase the game, the puck becomes a hot potato
  • Don’t have to dump the puck in or throw it off the glass
  • There were 10-12 foot passes available and instead were flipping pucks
  • Some guys tried tonight so can’t throw everyone under the bus, some guys really worked hard tonight
Demko
  • Not sure why the team isn’t getting up for his games
  • Couple of flukey goals that weren’t his fault
Sasson
  • Making the most of his opportunity
Hughes
  • He’s trying to push the pace
  • Effort is always 100% every game
Forward Line-Up
  • Wants to elevate Garland
  • Thought the Miller line was good; controlled the play
At Home
  • Didn’t understand why they played that way in the 1st period
  • Forward had the puck with 5 feet of ice to take and make a play but instead dumped it in
  • Not sure if it’s because they had a day off and there are some guys sick
  • Needs to figure this out quickly
  • Guys are tense at home
  • Seem more relaxed on the road
Powerplay
  • Went rogue
  • When things don’t go their way, the unit becomes individuals
  • The powerplay has been pretty good the last 2-3 weeks but because they were down 3-0 reverted to being individuals
Players’ Effort
  • 4 or 5 guys are struggling to get emotionally invested in the game
  • These guys need to understand it’s the NHL and you have to be jacked up and emotionally in the game
Team Attitude
  • They preach even-keel
Frustration
  • Is sure a couple of coaches are frustrated because they had a gameplan that some guys didn’t execute
  • As a coach you get pissed about it
  • This group bounces back
  • There were plays to be made but were too tense

Thanks again vault dweller.

Man, Tocchet needs to figure out his f***ing powerplay. It's not like this problem just became apparent for a week, it's been the problem for almost an entire year.

As for bounce back? Yeah, Rick, tell us that again when (not if, WHEN) Colorado bashes our face in on Monday.

Following their best game of the season with their worst. What in the Jekyll & Hyde is this team?

Came here to say more or less this. Can't get a read on this team. demmer will take a bit getting up to speed. What good is this forward group though, when the only guy right now getting them the puck game-to-game is Quinn Hughes? You need 3 guys at least like that and this team has 1 at the moment. Nearly 2 when Hronek comes back, 2 if 2023 Hronek is the one we get back.

The problems go way beyond the defense. I WISH this team's problem was simply that the D is crap.

Nah. This is something beyond hockey. I mean our coach is flat out saying 4 out of our top 5 guys can't even get invested in the game. They've got issues, folks.

People assumed the Panthers would destroy the Canucks and look how that went.

Normally I would see that game as an encouraging sign, but Panthers just got blanked by Flames tonight, and when they lose to Oilers on Monday it will be a sweep by the western Canadian teams.

So was this a game that we played well or a case of Panthers taking a piss? Could be both? Could one caused the other? See these really should not be questions that would materialize in my head if not for the combination of their loss and ours today.

For the better part of the last couple of seasons I've tried my best to take a chill approach to the team, but tonight was just an utter EMBARRASSMENT.

Didn’t understand why they played that way in the 1st period. maybe its tocchet? getting outshot in your own barn by a 3-1 margin is nothing to understand about... get the guys going. demko was left hang to dry. not his fault. defense still shit. doesnt matter if its friedman/juulssen interchangble very bad. time to shake things up before the roster freeze. colorado will stomp this team with their fowards easily.

Man I wish there was a way they could have pried Tkachuk out of Ottawa for Petey. Too late now and we are stuck with him. He'll probably light it up at the four nations though. Small victories for Nucks fans.
Is that Necas trade still on the table?
1 for 1 would be ok.

Didn’t watch much of the game but good for Sasson Always playing hard and making the most of his opportunity.

It's moments like this when I actually wish Aquaman would still come out with some dumb ass tweets to stroke his own ego.

Too bad Moleman probably told him to shut the f*** up forever.

Rutherford admitting they're 'two or three players' away from being a contender. But with limited cap space--making deals has never been harder.

After a breakthrough last year, this just may not be their year. I know it probably means blowing off another year on their window with guys like Hughes, Pettersson, Miller, Boeser and Demko.

Unfortunately I just don't think there's a guy out there who's going to come in and transform this roster enough to make a huge difference this season.

I feel a part of this game was kismet. The universe's way of tying loose ends. 11 years ago IIRC there was a certain je-ne-sais-quoi in the air. I shit you not, I'm going here. But Rask got a knuckler in that game from Hansen I believe, to this day I believe the air pressure in the building was funky because of the storm outside but I may be wrong. I wasn't exactly with the living and breathing at this time.

Anyways, funny enough, I felt the same driving into work today. Just something weird about this weather system. Sure enough, Marchand gets a moment in the game to address the fans just like that game. I can't even be mad at this point. It's like a cockroach that you've tried to stamp out so many times, you're just kind of impressed he's still around. 5-1 loss in our worst game of the season, last time was 6-2 our best of the season (well, really mostly just Santorelli).

What this means for this season I haven't the slightest.

If this core quits on another coach...then I don't have much faith in this group.

One of two marquee players will be done in Vancouver after this season is my unfortunate prediction. And I hope they make the correct but difficult decision.

@VanJack Jim is correct, but we are still a "playoff team". The undercurrent for catastrophe is here, but I'm actually for once optimistic in the short term. We're not kidding ourselves, we're a definitely true blue playoff team. But we aren't a "always bet on black" contender. Honestly just adding 1 guy if he's the right guy and this could be, talent-wise, not league-measuring-stick-wise, perhaps the best team the Canucks have iced...when healthy.
