Yeah, I don't understand how some people feel entitled to access into athletes personal, private lives...I don't care how long you've been a STH or how much money you've spent on the team, you're still just a fan and aren't entitled to things that aren't your business.
Yep.

Let me put it this way....

People on this board and others are responsible for your livelihood. We are the ones who buy the products and services the company you own/work for provides. We are the reason you get a paycheque.

To say Miller owes us something because we are paying to see the product/company he is a part of and paid by is the same as anyone demanding the same from, well, anybody. It doesn't make sense. I'm not entitled to know your business just because I support your livelihood and I am not entitled to know MIller's business for the exact same reason.

Can I just say, at least, this younger fan core is so rabid and I love it. It makes going to games an excitement intrinsically and the team is actual held to standards now. Good vibes, buy high on Canucks stock this year.
Many of them were too young to remember The Dark Ages.

The owners owe us a good product because without us, they have no money to pay their players.

The players owe the owners a good team.

That's about it.

Not to disagree too harshly but he actually does have to be made available to the media. It's an obligation of all NHL players. Media also has an obligation to ask the question and Miller can decline to answer.

Theoretically, yes. Hronek didn't have a media availability until the end of last season, and at that time it was immediately obvious why.

I think you're right in almost any other context, but the lines are a bit blurrier when it comes to professional sports. These are public entertainers. We don't just watch hockey for the game, we watch for the soap opera too, the human drama. If it were just a bunch of robots skating around, it wouldn't work.

So while Miller's private life is totally his to share or not as he sees fit, I can't blame the media for probing at the human story. And I can't blame the fans for their curiosity. Miller is a character we're attached to, not just a stat line. That's how the entertainment business works.

Forget the personal aspect, he is part of a product being sold. Would you like to be sold tickets to see a band and then the lead singer didn't show up? Oh wait that happened in Vancouver and almost ended up in a riot.

Miller is part of a product, a piece of the "whole unit" being sold, a thing. Lots of posters have no issues with trade proposals or critiquing a player on the team. Once he signed on to play for 8 million dollars a year and the team sell ticket to see him he became depersonalized. To see a performance.

How is whining about a player or suggesting he be traded any different than expecting to know if the lead singer is showing up? And if not why not?

Is "Trade him" or "he played like crud" any different than "why isn't he here, I paid to see him"

If Miller owes nobody anything then there can never be any complaints or questions about anything to do with any part of the team, the whole product.

Some parts can have to be repaired but then the part needing repair is explained as to why.

Lets go to an extreme,

The Canucks released a statement that 4 players need to take time off for a reset, Hughes, Garland, Landinen and DeBrusk for personal reasons and will be gone for an extended period of time.

That is okay? No explanation should be expected or explained? But ticket prices stay the same? Or half the Abbottsford team is iced as the Vancouver team? Abby tickets are much cheaper aren't they?

Miller is a feature player, a selling point an important asset. They aren't slaves and they are human with all the frailties but he is also a product being sold.

Now about the game,

I think this is a must win game, they haven't secured a playoff spot and if they lose there could be a chance that a couple of teams jump over them.
The schedule gets much harder going forward

IMO a must win

To me, at the end of the day, it's the on-ice product that will speak the loudest. This is a result-driven league, and fans who paid such MASSIVE price for their tickets deserve better results.

I'm still feeling pretty neutral to cautiously optimistic about the season. Tons of hockey games left, nothing to get too worked up about.
