I saw enough. Mangiapane doesn't fit in on the top line and him missing from the third line threw that one off too.

From my Armchair coaching, and as others have stated, I'd keep the original lines together and insert Miro in Ovies spot.

Also fwiw, Colorado is a good team, so small sample size. Two more tough matchups coming.
This. Don’t over think it Carbery.

Man we just looked like we really missed Ovi. On ice ability, emotional leadership, line chemistry, everything. Can't just stop playing for a period, and the luck finally turned against us.

I agree that Mangiapane didn't fit up top and that a third line with Vrana and Lappy on the wings is untenable. Would like to see preferably Miro but maybe even Vrana on that first line instead. From in the building I thought Lappy actually looked pretty good, had a lot more opportunities to carry the puck and I thought he looked pretty sharp. I appreciate the work Vrana has done to round out his game on the forecheck and cycling for in-zone offense, and he's still great on the rush -- he's absolutely awful in-zone though and I really don't know how you continue with him for much longer.

It's the first game home after a road trip. Caps got more good chances than the other guys and didn't bury them. Logan was pretty great.

I would also rather have seen Miro and fewer lineup differences. I just prefer watching Miro over Hendrix. But, I am pretty sure things are going to be better next game.

He's not even a middle six player.
We signed him to 1.85M for 2. That means you expect him to play up. Sure first line is a stretch. But I’d like to see a scrappy guy up there. I think he was 1+1 tonight.

EDIT: My bad. He clearly wasn’t 1+1 tonight. Last game. No points tonight. I still like to give him a shot on 1st line.

Is this a bad time to say Duhaime?
Raddysh would be a better fit than Duhaime if you wanted to really change it up. I don't know what you do on the 4th line though if you move either of them up. Would probably need to call up Trineyev or Rybynski and then you're not going to trust them with more than 8 mins a game.

Problem is because we don’t have right shots. Mangi Ileft) doesn’t look like he is the answer. So if you go right there are very few options. Miro or Radysh. Miro is getting worked in for sure. Standard caps. So i would try another LW and that is probably Duhaime or Lappy.

FWIW… I’m not dying on playing Duhaime. Just think it is an option worth trying.

Miro plays the same style/position OV does. Still love the coaching, but they missed the boat this game. They are stretching it too much to hope HL finds a spark right now. To me Miro should have been a no brainer, except for PP1 unit. All the other lines would have stayed the same. Chychrun took OV's spot @ Left Point on the PP1 unit.

If HL were sent down to Hershey, it's not the end of his NHL career. He just is a little bit behind the rest of the roster to develop any chemistry. Still have faith in HL, but now is not the time for it.

Miro has to earn his spot. They almost always let a player watch a game and take a practice or two before going in. I also don’t think they’ll throw Miro immediately on the first line. Just not how the caps roll. I don’t like Lappy at wing either but I like that they put him in. I thought he played well. I suspect Miro watches another game.

Honestly I don’t hate the idea of Vrana with Strome instead of Mang. If we aren’t playing Miro.

Also I’m just going to say it. Dylan Strome is fantastic, but sometimes I don’t think he’s the best on the half boards on the PP. If we’re just going to play mostly one unit I’d almost prefer him to spend some time on the goal line and try PLD on the boards.

Somewhat random thought, but thinking long-term (or more accurately, fantasizing long-term), if I could add any player to this team from any other team, I'd add Makar.

The problem is there's nobody to forecheck with Lappy and Vrana playing wings on the same line, so unless you want to try Lappy at LW1, or mess with the 2nd line (no way), then Vrana or Miro need to go on line 1, and vrana or Lappy need to go to the press box to make room for Mangiapane on line 3.

You expect him to play up on the third line if there's injuries. He's a bottom six player. There's no indication he'd fit anywhere in the top 6.

For Saturday… I’d play the same lines. Let Miro watch another game. See what gels.

I'm going against Carbs for this one. Miro should have taken OV's spot, HL scratched and everyone else stay where they were before. In hindsight, no OV and Strome/Protas had their worst games in a long time. If I'm coach, I go against the Analytics for this game and plant Miro in OV's spot. If you don't like or see Miro not fitting in on that 1st line for the 1st period, then you shift him down to the 3rd and try promoting someone from the 2nd line to the top line because a good deal of coaches do that. Then you move some from 3rd line to the 2nd line. The Constant is Strome/PLD/Eller/Dowd still stay in their regular center positions.
