Man, it is absolutely killing me that I didn’t buy the AHLTV package and I have no opinion on whether this is merited or not.
Watching the Abbotsford game last night, he was absolutely head and shoulders above the rest of the defense. Hell, everyone else on the team including Aman and Bains too.
Looked like an obvious future NHLer playing among a bunch of AHL-ceiling level players.

But despite controlling the ice, he does occasionally have Juulsen-type moments where he zones out for a second and it leads to a goal against (see Coachella Valley goal #1 last night). So as much as I'm sick of Juulsen and would like to see him waived, I'm not sure Pettersson is actually an upgrade on him at the NHL level at this point in time.

I'm glad D-Petey has played well enough to earn an early season call up, but I thought he struggled in the preseason, so I'm not expecting him to come in and blows everyone away. Shelter minutes if he plays, and expecting some ups and downs. Anything more is gravy.

Nashville is so wing-heavy, they really need to find a 1C. If they can get that piece (not easy, I know) I think they'll be a pretty good team.

When's the last time we had a D man progress this quickly? Pettersson's progression is very similar to Alex Edler's. The Canucks could possibly end up with another top pairing with Pettersson/Willander. A fairly safe bet is a very good 2nd pairing.

Whoah! Let’s slow down the top pairing talk. I like EP but he looked pretty poor in camp. Still has a lot to work on to become a solid second pairing guy.

Hockey Fights Cancer Night
  • NHL does a great job with this night
  • His brother went through cancer treatment
  • Loves seeing the signs of who each person is fighting for
  • Was a tough thing to hear about Joshua’s diagnosis
  • Grateful to play the sport
  • Sometimes you need these reminders
Elias Pettersson, Defenceman
  • Didn’t have an extra defenseman
  • Desharnais banged up
  • Precautionary recall so they could have an extra defenceman
Nashville Predators
  • Doesn’t look at their record; looks at the coach and personnel
  • Are a desperate team; Canucks need to match their desperation
  • Important game for both teams
  • Canucks are trying to find 60-minute consistency
  • Result oriented business
Boeser
  • Thinks Boeser has stepped up but doesn’t know to what extent
  • Has done more and more every day
Lankinen
  • Starting tonight
  • Is sure he’s anxious to play; always nice to play against your former teammates
Silovs
  • Has loved his last 10 days
  • Abbotsford start, practices, etc; his attitude and body language has been great
  • When Blackhawks made him move side-to-side, he looked big
Hitting
  • Reaves hit is one that needs to get out of the game
  • Tocchet had to change the way he hit after getting some kneeing suspensions
  • Need to make sure you’re getting lower; almost have to crouch down and target the chest
  • If going to fast, need to abort the hit and just get body position
Canucks’ 4th Line
  • Liked the 4th line yesterday
  • Lots of possession time and connection between them
  • Were in position to come up with lose pucks
  • Raty is 21 years old and the biggest thing for young guys in the NHL is when they get the puck they go into “awareness mode” and they don’t move their feet; can get away with this in lower leagues
  • Move your feet then look for awareness
