I know we're all mostly cringing at the Boeser next contract but when you see how soft/small and talented our next group of wingers are it's hard to argue with just get it done

Fast forward to 8:18 - that’s the exact play nobody wants Juulsen to make with 12:19 left in a 3rd period against a contender.

To give him some credit, he did score in this game lol.

And, probably the team's fortunes will be on the downturn by the time it gets to the real downside part of the term, so it doesn't matter much as long as they can get some decent years out of him beforehand. Konecny's new contract, which will start next season, is basically the marker. Same age, same position, same calibre of player. Canucks might fight a little harder on the AAV because they need the space right now more than the Flyers do, but any difference figures to be decidedly modest.

Man…Taylor Hall is getting scratched in favour of Ilya Mikheyev.
The list of Blackhawks that are non-scratchable is very short. Hall really isn't doing much. Mikheyev at least can PK and do a good job defensively at ES.

would be a lot easier to live with Juulsen's limitations if he would just stop trying to run guys without coverage on the back check.
Juulsen just has to not go out of position to make a hit and create an odd man rush the other way. It’s that simple. Instead of stepping up and hitting a player taking him totally out of the play, he needs to stay back and defend the 3on2/3on3 etc.

I mean it shouldn’t be this hard to resist the urge to go for a big hit?

How many more opportunities will management allow him if he continues to do this?
A decent percentage of this is on the coaches, juulsen should be a manageable seventh dman, playing a very simple defense first game.

But.. I mean does it make a dent for NHL viewrship.

There is a Am football league in finland but it is so marginal nobody cares.

Same with pretty much all other sports when compared to hockey.

I don't know what OP meant, but I assume they were mostly referring to the stadiums being literally across the street from one another and the Grey Cup having a ton of extracurricular type stuff in the immediate vicinity.

Has he actually been that anywhere, though?

Bad optics if Mikheyev is on the broadcast watching his "return to Vancouver" tribute video from the press box.

I'm definitely warming up to re-signing him. He's been the Canucks' best forward this season and his absence has had a big impact. Hopefully the rumours of him being willing to take a discount are true.

Intensity in the First Period
  • Players know they have to be ready to go from puck drop
  • Play hockey and have some fun too
  • A lot of positives here; lots of positives and the one negative is got to start on time
Silovs
  • Starting tonight’s game
  • Would like to not have odd-man rushes against him tonight
  • Last thing you want is your goalie facing a 3-on-2 in the first 5 minutes of the game or goal-mouth scrambles
  • Wants to let him settle into the game
  • Had a good outing in Abbotsford and has had some good practices
Juulsen
  • Playing in tonight’s game
Garland
  • Has played a lot for Tocchet
  • Energizer-type of guy; drives lines
  • Starting to play on the PK so gets a little extra ice time there
  • Doesn’t want to overplay him
  • When you are looking to get your team going, look at a guy like him to get your team out of a funk
  • Wins a lot of battles, quick on the puck, holds on to puck
  • When you throw pucks away, it’s easy for the other team to defend; one of the better players on the team at holding onto the puck and making a play
Tonight’s Game
  • Don’t care who you play, giving up too much
  • Thought they corrected up some of their mistakes in the road trip but reverted once back in Vancouver
  • Can create more chances of the rush; turning 3-on-2s into 3-on-3s too quickly and thinks they will be better at that tonight
  • If you give this team something, they know what to do
  • Did a rush presentation today
Soucy-Myers
  • Tend to stick what you know
  • Were good for the team in the playoffs
  • Have struggled at times but are rounding out there game
Breakouts
  • Believes part of the problem for their breakouts is confidence; neither know where the forwards are at on the ice
  • New players are trying to figure out the new system and are not where
  • They need to be on breakouts; this causes the defencemen to double clutch, hold it for a second, then get stripped
  • Not entirely players’ fault; coaching staff needs to be better at teaching new players where to be all the time
  • Responsibility everywhere
  • If you are at your spot, it gives everyone confidence; when the puck carrier has the puck and doesn’t seen primary outlet, they have to hold it or throw it off the glass
  • Need to be better at being connected
Bedard
  • Great at finding the good ice
  • Might pressure him but he will draw a double team then make a play
  • Can shoot through a screen as good as anyone
  • Elite at going outside-inside

Man I like Tocchet but yikes.

After 3 weeks of training camp/preseason and 5 weeks of regular season, your forwards still don't know where to go on breakouts?

That's a pretty big coaching failure.

To be fair, he probably thought he could step up because Garland was backchecking and figured he had some help...Garland didn't recognize quick enough (tough to do at that point) that Juulsen was stepping up...then you had dear, sweet Myers all discombobulated on a 3-on-1 and goes full Myers on the play. lol....It wasn't an ideal moment for Juulsen, but I can see why he thought he could get a lick in.

Yeah, there was no reason for Garland to go chasing after Scheifele on that play in the first place. He's behind him and all he's doing is weakly poking his stick at a guy that he can't catch. Should've let Juulsen handle Scheifele and just picked up the third guy on the rush.

Not too many. It doesn't even feature one of the 9 teams. :biglaugh:Such a funny yet sad league. There is higher level competition and more teams in rec hockey.
8.2 million Canadians watched at least part of the game two years ago between the same two teams. And the comment about higher level competition in rec hockey is ridiculous.

Sure, I shouldn't rain on people's parade but it's just comical though. A pro sports league in Canada with 40 million in population and no other cities even want to be included. Usually when a a league is successful you're turning people away. Not the other way around.

I can't wait to see the lame duck hanging in the air forever non spiral passing highlights. :sarcasm:

Yeah I can cheer for them, who are they even playing though?

I'm from SK so maybe I'm just fundamentally bitter lol.

I must confess I'm a pretty big NFL fan ... I just appreciate a superior product
They are playing Toronto
