That's not an accurate summery of what MS posted about Lek.
It's crazy how people can understand that Aatu Raty could go from a 1st overall contender to drafted 52nd on the basis of a bad year and then back up to 'worth a late first' based on a good year following that, or that EP2 or Brz could go from a 3rd round pick to 'would go early 2nd in a re-draft' ... and that makes total sense. But if you say that a player they're emotionally attached to might have lost value they LOSE THEIR MINDS.
Lekkerimaki has gone through a similar value cycle to what Raty did based on huge ups/downs but was just drafted at a different spot in the cycle. Nothing I said was wrong. Prospect value fluctuates hugely based on latest results. It doesn't mean it can't go up again.

He didnt look out of place at all, but most of all, he looked to be able to put himself in good positions to score...and was unlucky not to do so.
Some younger players have the innate ability to be at the right place at the right time..With the speed of the NHL game, good instincts are important..Podkolzin was an example of a young player who didnt trust his instincts (or he's just lacking them), and never seemed to find much open ice.
Only negative for me from last nights game is Lekkerimaki.
More specifically, not pleased with his choice of number. #23 I'd kinda boring, and it's Edler. Was hoping he'd go with a number that has more swag. Like 88 or a high number. Lekkerimaki, if you're reading this, not too late to reconsider....

Having not watched Lekkerimaki play much before I was really pleased to see that he's more than a soft perimeter guy with a great shot. He strikes me as someone that sees the ice well, stays connected to his linemates, and supports the play. You can pass him the puck and the play won't die on his stick. That's huge!
He reminds me a lot of Boeser in that he's known for his shot and goal scoring but he's smart and has an underrated playmaking game. He's good off the rush and I can see him being a great fit on the PP1 unit in the near future.

What if I told you it was a tribute to Gradin?
My prediction before last night's game was that Lekkerimaki might last a period at most on the line with Miller and Suter.......but clearly Tocchet liked what he was seeing because he kept that line intact the whole game.
That in and of itself is a validation of the two-way game the kid plays. He's getting his chances. But more importantly he's not hurting that line defensively when he's out there. And that's the thing that will get you into Tocchet's doghouse faster than anything.
So all in all, and impressive debut for the rookie.

Thought Lekkerimaki played a quiet game all things considered, but in a good way.
I figured the Sprong experiment with Tocchet behind the bench was doomed to fail. Just didn't expect it to happen inside of 10 games.
But must confess I was less than bullish on Brannstrom as well. Just didn't see how an undersized d-man like that would ever be able to provide the defensive muscle and win enough puck battles to satisfy the coaching staff in the long run.
But here he is.....playing 14-15 minutes a night, and generally playing damn well. It might not last. But it's always gratifying when a former high draft pick basically underperforms, but sticks with it and resurrects his career.
