To the Pens for Pettersson is my guess. And it will happen before Xmas.
I like Hog like most of the rest of the fanbase but when you look at the Canucks depth at forward, his playing style, the needs of the team and the fact that most GM's prefer young roster players to picks, this type of trade seems almost inevitable.

I know people bitch about reclamation projects, but once in a while they really pay off. Right now he is playing like the 15th overall pick that he was, and was projected to be.

Reclamation projects are fine, great even as we're seeing with Branstrom. Our problem in the past was throwing so many assets without seemingly scouting the players we were experimenting with (Vey, Baertschi, Sbisa and etc)

@WTG re Lekkerimaki shift length - He's always changed early/ has quick shifts, it's a staple of his game, and he rarely gets caught out on long shifts chasing offense (coaches love that I'm sure).
Agreed. He seems a smart player and I'm positive based on when he was changing he is indeed knowledgeable on what pleases a coach. He's going to try to do what is necessary to stick.

I just want to give a shout out to Pius Suter, our Swiss Army knife player who now is tied with Boeser for the team lead in goals at 6. For a guy with hands of stone, he’s been finding the back of the net pretty consistently and did it again last night.
Strong defensively and able to move up and down the lineup where ever he’s needed.
What a great value signing he’s been.

Suter is very underrated. He will be difficult to replace next season. I don't see how the Canucks can possibly bring him back considering the need to spend more money on a Top-4 D and Brock. Of course, if the Canucks are confident in Lekk, they may considering letting Brock move on and allocate his money elsewhere.

This is definitely something that was apparent while watching him in the SHL. Always changes early. A good habit to have, but sometimes you would like to see him stay out there for longer when he is the team's best offensive player (as he was for Orebro).

This sort of thing is a good example why plus minus (and on-ice metrics) can be misleading. Directly involved in the Suter goal, but he changes early (a good play with the Canucks controlling in zone), and misses out on the plus.

Lekk is going to have to replace him next year, we won’t be able to afford 3M x 3 on Suter. Suter is a good smart dependable player, was excellent on the top line in the playoffs playing with Miller & Boeser.

Suter has high IQ, good in all 3 zones, versatile & dependable, sneaky smart, great awareness, good shot, makes nifty passes in traffic, moves the puck quickly (doesn’t hang on to it), makes the right reads, etc.

He's the ultimate middle 6 forward IMO.

He can fill in for any line in a pinch, and he doesn't look out of place. His entire career he's paced for ~15 goals, ~30 points.

Just consistently solid, him and Blueger where bargain signings.

I really like Suter, he's versatile and can fill in at C in a pinch, but why is he getting $3x3? You don't actually think he's going to finish the season with a shooting % that is almost 2x his career average do you? I can see us offering him something similar to the deal Blueger got and it wouldn't surprise me if he took it.

Swiss Army Knife that’s dependable & versatile with a 30 goal season in the prime of his career will get that. But you’re right 30 goals isn’t likely, would definitely resign him to a Blueger type deal (2M X 2).

I rather the Canucks try to find the next cheap Suter than paying him 3X3
They can’t afford to pay Suter that. Their cap picture is pretty clear for next season if they want to bring back Lankinen & Boeser.

Good bounce-back effort after the 3rd period debacle against Edmonton.

Lekkerimaki was ... decent. He kept it clean, worked hard, only made one major coverage error that I saw on a Weegar chance in the first. Had one good chance on the PP although I thought he struggled a bit making himself available in the bumper position. But to me this game was mostly really similar to the games from Bains that people get really angry about. He's small and weak and struggles to get position/separation inside to get his very good shot away. To me he still looks a season and 10 lbs of muscle away from being an NHL player.

Pettersson seems to have flipped a switch at the exact moment that Boeser was hurt. That game ... looked like normal Pettersson. He competed. He was engaged. His head was on a swivel trying to make plays.

Carson Soucy has been much, much better in the last 3-4 games and looks more like the player he was last season. Skating better and just much more proactive on the ice.

Kiefer Sherwood seems to get better and better with each game. Was just a menace in this game.

Teddy Blueger needs to work out his breakaway strategy. Either deke or shoot. It seems like every time he gets a one-on-one chance he sort of tries a half-fake and then sneaking a quick (slow) shot past the goalie and it never works.

Brannstrom needed that game after a rough performance against Edmonton.

Important game for Lankinen as well to not let a rough period snowball. Rock solid again.

i think that’s the lesson from the later years of gillis

you don’t re-sign a guy like higgins at the raise he’s earned to be a secondary core player, you go out and find another undervalued guy to replace him

MS will use weasel language to back off the point, but he was saying he was worth like a 3rd round pick like a year and a half ago and refused to consider the context of his injuries and mono.
He's a bright guy, but it would be great if he could admit his mistakes from time to time.
This is nonsense. He wasn't wrong about what his value was then. A player boosting his value when recovering from injury isn't proving that the value was always there.
