Starting to think we should experiment with running 2 PP units and spread the PP time more evenly between each. Our PP1 is just not good anymore, and hasn't been in a while. Let JTM/BB6/Hughes lead one, and Petterson/Garland/Hronek run the other. Some teams are starting to do so around the league, we might want to give that a try ourselves.

There was a conscious shift, IMO, in the "weapons" on the first PP unit a while back. It basically flows through Miller and Hughes now. Miller goes for the big wrister, Hughes tries to dance shots in through traffic, and Boeser cleans up in front. Petey is basically there to move the puck back and forth. I feel like a couple of seasons ago, Petey was the weapon - they looked frequently for his one timer, and/or he would dance his way in for a quicker shot.

Having a 1A/1B unit does sound pretty good in theory. I might roll with...

Boeser - DeBrusk
Miller - Hughes - Hoglander

And then

Garland - Sprong
Sherwood - Hronek - Pettersson

(probably replace Sherwood or Sprong with Joshua once he is back)

Devils don't really play much defense - that side of the puck for them is very much a work in progress despite their off-season additions. Expecting a 6-5 kind of game, Canucks come out on top.

Petey should be the main weapon the PP. Both with his wrister and his one-timer. But he's so reluctant to use either. Coaches should make it a priority to force him to shoot like at least 3 times per PP.

He should be coming off the right wall and looking to snipe like Naslund.

And I don't know what it is but every time Hughes passes to him for a one-timer it's either in his feet or he has to settle it first. You'd think players of their calibre would be able to go into practice and figure that shit out so that interaction could be consistently clean in-game but it just never happens which is mindboggling.

I apologize to @Vector @EpochLink and @thecupismine in advance , but I think the Canucks lose this one 5-3

I really hope I’m wrong though
Van has struggled vs NJ at home in recent years. But, NJ isn't playing well right now. Played the most games, so their point total is a little misleading.

Either this game or next one vs SJ is where I expect Silovs to get back in.

Petey can contribute but he has no leverage with his shot right now and Tochett knows it so he's changed the PP.
The strange upside to that is it's now not so predictable to what the play is going to be. Also, that Petey will focus on being accurate that powerful, although at a loss of speed. Actually, he's just playing like Wayne did after his back problems and will just focus on making plays and passes with occasional weak shot.

Seems like we're experimenting with Bains in the top six. Again. Granted, he's had a couple good games but I really don't like moving him up like that. Especially when he seemed to be finding a niche with Sprong on the fourth line.

Likewise, dumping Hoglander on the fourth line really doesn't nothing for him. Could just be a one game thing given Tocchet's comments about Hoglander and the line as a whole.
