Really sucks he can't pick his nephew.

Yeah, Buffalo had to come in and screw that up (who could blame them though? Timmy is the man). I assumed they would groom Dorion to take over, but if the plan is to step down at the end of the season he may not be ready.

I may be alone here but I'm not a huge fan of him picking his successor. The team needs a new fresh way of thinking when it comes to management and how a team should be built in my opinion. Just want someone with fresh ideas, not to knock on Murray as solid as a career he's had...it always seemed like he's been backtracking on moves he's made as a GM when it comes to coaching and filling team needs....Ottawa has looking to fill the same gaps in the roster year after year.

I agree completely. They need a fresh look at things.

I would rather be GM of Buffalo than Ottawa right now.

**** Cancer! Bryan Murray is a damn hero for carrying on working trough cancer. And showing everyone that you can still enjoy your life and do great things even trough great illness. (like many other amazing people like Franklin Delano Roosevelt)

I hope thee Senators can make the playoffs and have an epic send-off for him. (Jets vs Sens Cup Finale for the win! :handclap:)

Murray had a plan and it's working. Look at the talent that talent his staff has brought . Youngest roster in the league by man games played at the beginning of the season(still possibly now) , the roster is so young yet people still want more. The Sens will be a great team in the future mainly due to Murray.

Let be real here...

5 Coaches in Murray's Tenure
Star Players always wanting out
Multiple bad FA signings over the years
Currently 10 points out of a playoff spot

its not working...yes there are a few bright spots in there, but the negative out weighs the positive...And imo a lot of our young guys get too much praise for being young or their draft position rather than what they have been actually contributing on the ice.

I agree. This isn't Joe's Grocetaria Bryan is running, it's an NHL franchise and surrounding yourself with family and friends of the family leads to nothing but a circular feedback pattern where very few new ideas or concepts are introduced or promoted.

You should never get to pick your successor if you're leaving a job, that's for management to do through a selection process involving interviews, meetings and so on.

Senators desperately need an outside voice to come in, and fast.

Ottawa unless it becomes a disaster
If Murray doesn't pick the successor, then Melnyk will. I hope it's left to Murray tbh.

I know we're not good enough, but it would have been great to see the team sneak into the playoffs for his last year.

Best wished Mr. Murray.

Agree with this. One reason why there have been so many coaches is because Murray hires assistants or first time coaches and then meddles in their decisions-as a one time coach he just cant let go. I have no doubt that he will do the same thing with the GM position-hire someone that he can "Mentor".

Look at the coaches-Cameron who was the head coach of Melnyks junior teams and has worked only for him for 14 years,Mark Reeds former junior coach who is recuperating from cancer, and then two players who have never been coaches-Jason Smith and Shawn Donavon. This suits Melnyk-they're likely cheap-and Murray-they don't have the experience or authority to challenge the boss.

Ottawa is getting to be too much like Edmonton as far as the old boys club running things.Bringing in anyone with strong and independent and fresh ideas is needed but unlikely.

...

If Ottawa spent to the cap, rather than lowest payroll (by far) in the league: Coaches would look better with a better roster, FA's could be higher quality, roster/team would be better.... Having money gives a GM many more options.

If BM was managing a big market team, I would fully expect it to be a perennial contender.

I agree an outside perspective would be best. Give the team a new direction. The next GM will inherit a good base to which he can add pieces to get them back in contention.

AND kfcu cancer!!!

The only time I recall when a GM picked his successor, was when Quinn sat in on the interviews for the Leafs.

I think someone higher up or plain someone else, should choose.

Even though i don't think a GM should choose his successor, in this case I'm OK with it.

I would rather BM pick one over Melnyk...

THis is pure speculation pulled straight from your corn hole.

I'd prefer the Sens to go outside the organization to find their next GM as well, but lets not make up reasons and pretend they're real.

The guy is all courage and strength for doing his job with little time left, won't let that ******** illness bring him down. Inspiring, I don't even like the Senators but it'd be perfect if they won the Cup this year for him.

Early speculation seems to point to Ray Shero as being a candidate.

I wouldnt mind that. Bring someone in thats not afraid to move some players via trade and waive the deadweight.
