Who are some current execs who should get some GM interviews this summer? I know Mathieu Darche and Jason Botterill are popular names. Marc Bergevin is the most popular of the retreads. Who else is out there?

Chris Drury destroyed the Rangers as a player and now he destroyed this franchise an exec.

Not sure, but if I had to hire a GM, Washington is the first team I start looking at.

Between trades, UFAs, and recent drafts, they have turned the model upside down.

I think Marty will take over as Devils next GM when Fitz moves on. I think Fitz has done pretty well for the most part so I don’t see it happening too soon. Maybe in a year or two if they continue to flop.

Teams are always inclined to hire former NHL players, but truth is many of the best hockey brains have barely played hockey themselves. Bill Zito, Julien Brisebois, Chris MacFarland, Kent Hughes, Eric Tulsky, Lou Lamoriello, Doug Armstrong, and the trend is growing. I guess we could add Dubas too.

Isn’t Carolina’s GM exactly that
Yes, Tulsky is close, but he's more like a Howie Roseman (Eagles - NFL) in that he came from a different background but worked his way up through the ranks with an NHL team before becoming GM.

I'm talking about hiring a guy as GM who never worked in hockey before. Like, either from another pro sport or (less likely) from another business entirely.

I believe Jason Spezza is highly thought of in the Pens organization. Wouldn't surprise me if he was pushing or at risk of leaving that they make him the GM and Dubas purely the "POHO".

Ross Mahoney is probably too old now to the point that he wouldn't want a head job anyways but I'm always surprised that it seems like he's never really even been interviewed

I'm waiting for someone to hire a non-hockey guy as GM. I'll bet it happens eventually.
It won't be someone who has not been a part of an NHL team. Dynamics of putting together a NHL roster with all of the personalities, chemistry, styles, you can't just come in from another industry without any hockey experience right off the hop. Need to work your way up over several years.

Howie Roseman of the PHI Eagles, Billy Beane of the Bills (played HS football, but got hurt so never played in college), for example worked their way up the ranks in football to become an NFL GM.

Laurence Gilman, I haven't found any hockey stats for him, so he would have fit that kind of mold of someone who didn't play USHL, Tier II (BCHL, AJHL, etc) but worked his way up the ranks to AGM, but never GM. But, no way would someone like him have gotten an NHL GM job right away.

Which clubs are likely to turn over their GM this off-season?

We'll see if Devils AGM Dan MacKinnon gets any consideration this summer.

Mike Futa

I like Futa but I kinda feel like he missed his window when the Kings were in their run a decade ago. Not sure if it's up to date, but EP has Futa's last NHL gig as 2021-22 with Carolina.

Hmmm, Chris Drury, huh ? Sounds like he'd be a good fit in Buffalo to drive them even further into the ground...Extend the playoff drought to 2 decades.

The easiest argument ever against "playing the game means you know the game" is make someone listen to Carlo Colaiacovo attempt to give analysis
