If the league wants to avoid retribution, they have to deal with these incidents. There is no way a team can watch that happen to a teammate and do nothing. That was one of the most egregious, cowardly, attacks I've seen. It was Matt Cooke-esque in it's level of sleaziness.

I feel like Sherwood, who doesnt actually fight, has now told two different players that next year they already signed up for a tilt, or am I misremembering?

He definetly was the one shouting at Yakov last night forcing him to try to rip away from the ref and get some.

I seem to recall it within the last month as well. He even mentioned it to the reporter the NEXT game because that was his first chance at speaking..

Then there is the Tanner Jeannot from earlier, or did that get dealt with already I also forget.

Am I crazy or wasnt it all Keifer all those times?

He was definitely the one shouting last night. It was hard to watch Forbort laying there holding his face. I can't imagine the rage his teammates were feeling.

The league has to avoid Bertuzzi/Moore incidents. This response from the league isn't the way to do that.

And it was Dickinson for his hit on Chytil.

Keifer called him out the next freaking game because he didnt talk to media after the Hawks one.

So keifer has set up a dickie and yakov fight card basically.

I have been a fan since day 1 got autographs pat Quinn Talon at the bay before the 1st season started and thanks id share the 6 pack if we win and feed ya moonshine to keep ya goin till training camp afterwards)))
I have to ask: where DO you watch the games?

Blaming the refs in a nothing game when you score 2 goals on 12 shots while getting shelled is ridiculous. I've seen this shit a lot from canuck fans here lately and it's getting on my nerves. It reminds me of the infamous canucks board where people were bitching about refs after every game. Lankinen kept us from getting murked while the Wild goalie shit in bed.
Agree to a point but the refs WERE pretty bad there towards the end. But, yeah, happens...

The refs were horrid.

What was Forbort doing there?

Clean check on Hughes, just like Sherwood's usually are.

Trenin skating to bench at the end of his shift, the puck is down the ice.

Forbort waits for and then steps into Trenin with a high shoulder check, at center ice and the puck is in the defensive zone.

Forbort instigates a fight with a tired player at the end of his shift for hitting Hughes.
Even the announcers on TV state the same thing.

Forbort gets Trenin on his knees and delivers three shots aiming at his head, Trenin gets up and instead of a bear hug Forbort tries to keep standing. Forbort hits Trenin at least three times, upper cut and two to the side of the head, Trenin gets up and delivers one shot JUST AS THE LINESMAN gets there. While it is a "cheap" shot because the guy is already down, Forbort did nail him three times when he was on his knees.

If the players were reversed Forbort gets praise for protecting Hughes, he was for a bit on the tube.

Now the really interesting part, the 5 min major. That is an automatic call when a player on the bench gets involved with those on the ice. The "poke" of the stick is also a 5 min major called spearing, doesn't matter the outcome. Blueger should/could have been assessed TWO 5 min majors.

Good on Forbort for standing up for Hughes but if he played his position none of this happens. As far as cheap shots, watch Garland and Sherwood in other games, especially the slew foots. IMO way more dirty than getting a shot in a fight that was started by the guy that took the hit.

If this game wasn't in Vancouver I am sure "game management" would have come to a different outcome.

The end of the season sure has a lot of guys getting into fights, guys that never fought before. Coaching?
Slew foots are not the same as misconfiguring a guy’s face while someone is holding him down for you. Forbort probably broke something, his eye socket is probably floating around, and who knows if he’s got a concussion. I don’t think we see Forbort again this season. I wonder if he’s in the hospital right now. As dirty as it comes. I understand your points about the flow and sequence of events, but nothing demands that ending. Players might as well just swing there sticks at each other’s heads if this is going to be tolerated. I wonder how the league handles it.

Considering the type of player Tocchet was, I'm really surprised how he's turned this team into a spineless bunch.
Theres just something in the water or the jersey colour, or the city, or the owner that makes it impossible for this franchise to be a hard working blue collar team

this is what i expected tocchet’s influence on this team to have been

(context: chelios had headshotted brian propp earlier in the series and ended his season)

man 6’6 kjell samuelsson trying climb over a guy in the scrum to get a better punching angle, now that is a giraffe i can get behind

Feels like it's just this year. We saw a lot of sticking up for each other last year... Joshua got hurt doing it, Zadorov did it a ton. A secondary (probably tertiary) addition outside of scoring would be some players with swagger.

Why am I not surprised at guardian's response?
Forbort had it coming?!? :skeptic:
Who started it?
This was not a staged event, Trenin was going back to the bench and Forbort stopped and waited for him and then hit him well behind the play.
Forbort upon further review also grabbed the ear strap on Trenin's helmet and gave him an overhand right to the head and upper cut to the jaw then yanked his head down using the ear strap.
Trenin had a clean check on Hughes.
Was at the end of his shift.
Forbort went way out of his way to start the fight. 5 - min and Instigator - 2- min
Forbort with three clean stiff shots to the head while Trenin on his knees, if it was reversed then Trenin did three dirty shots to a player unable to protect himself.
Blueger gets involved in a fight on the ice - 5 min major and game misconduct, from the bench - automatic game misconduct - spearing - 5 min match and game misconduct.

Forbort went out of his way to start the entire event, it ended badly for him but the Canucks got away with two automatic 5 min penalties, both by Blueger.

IMO anytime two players are fighting injuries can happen.

For the uninitiated a slew foot is one of the most dirty and hated plays in hockey. A player has almost no chance of cushioning his head hitting the ice, or an elbow smashing the ice. From behind, unprotected, cheap, cheap shot.

Forbort was standing up for a team mate but the end result isn't what anyone would want but it really is a matter of who started it. It is certainly not the first time blows are made when one player is down on the ice or a swing over or around an official. The way the official got in there the blow came before he got there. There is no doubt Trenin was pissed, he did a clean check, was ambushed, got a cross check to his head and then got three shots to the head while on his knees unable to protect himself ice and poked in the back from the bench with a stick before the last blow.

Just being devils advocate here, change the jersey's and Forbort is the villain and did the other team deserve even more penalties?
