GDT: GM#73 LA Kings vs Minnesota Wild @5:00

Also, Brown's contract is currently in no way an albatross (of course, that could change starting next season), and we rid ourselves of Gabby. Landing Dion at 5mil AAV is a definite net plus. He doesn't play a fast game, so we don't have to worry about him "losing his speed" as we would with other's that predicate their game on speed. Hope he keeps on playing the way he is. Maybe he's overpaid by $1 mil/AAV now.

We look better than Chicago right now.

Sabres fan here in peace.

Passing through, letting you know we have your game on our board as the GDT instead of our sleepfest with Nashville...as a game with playoff implications worth watching! Having a good laugh

Enjoy a meaningful game on your end.

Ask yourselves which is better, the Chicago and Kings model, or the Vegas model? Now go from there and tell me if any team should sign a player to the 8-year third contract deal.

Ah yes, the Vegas model which obviously every team gets a chance at doing and is vastly proven towards year over year success!

They are exactly who many knew them to be, a wildly inconsistent, middle of the NHL-pack team.

No, not disputing that, I think most of the poster bell curve would have had people pretty much exactly where they're at, but the on-ice product looks different every night. In theory, the way our team is built, we can play just about any kind of game except the "flip puck out for area pass, win foot race" game, but in reality, some nights you get a fast team, some nights you get a team that trips over their own feet; some nights you get the aggressive all-out 2012 looking forecheck, some nights no one can get past the redline. No identity is the bigger problem I have with that, but I've been cranky about that all year. Getting Carter back has been an obvious boon, but it still hasn't solidified any sort of identity.

Sort of been a 6/half dozen situation lately. No lines are set in stone, so if it's not working, Stevens will do something different.

Eh, Stevens didn't change shit until it was way to late last game. I'm not holding my breath for him to change anything. He coaches like reider plays, terribly.

Sorry, Vegas has a model now?? Really? Not even a full year.....and a model...
Yeah, man.

Really, they have a great model for expansion teams, as what they're doing is unprecedented. But that also has a ton to do with how the league allows future expansion teams to select players.

But their "model" is apples to our oranges. A weird analogy, but I'm sure the poster will make their post more clear.

Does Vegas get two Cups in the "Vegas model?"

If not, I'll take the Kings' model of trying to figure it out after an amazing run. It sucks, but it is what it is.

The Ducks have been relevant for awhile, and even have a Cup, but I'll take our 2 and this quasi-rebuild (basically, what it is) we're undergoing over their "model", too.

Vilardi was a major hit, it seems. JAD, Clague, and Petersen all may be tier 1/2 talent on the way. We have our picks back. And we have two Cups.
Do the Kings win a round in the playoffs with their existing model?

The Kings/Blachawks Model did get 5 cups in 6 years, so....

Not really. Neither team has won since they handed out all the retirement contracts. That's my point.

Of course Brown's contract is still an albatross. Brown having a good regular season where the team is still either going to miss the playoffs, or probably be out in the 1st round, doesn't change it.

Then you will enjoy watching this type of hockey for quite some time. The Kings are an organization without purpose at this time. They aren't going to win, and they aren't trying to garner the assets necessary to win in 5-6 years.

I wasn't even referring to you in my comment. That was just a hysterical reaction of me regarding tonight's game

I meant in a vacuum. This year his contract isn't an albatross.

How does that make sense? Wouldn't that mean that nearly every contract is an albatross then? Brown is earning his pay this season. Next season and the one after that and after that and after that? We'll see but for at least this season he's worth his pay.

Oh come here and get a hug

You pointed out why it doesn't change. The contract is for 4 more seasons. Dustin Brown is 33 years old. Of course his contract is an albatross.

So you weren't going to elaborate on a wonky analogy
What's the point. I have already elaborated enough on the necessity of a rebuild.

Vegas' model of roster construction is balance throughout the lineup. Perhaps it's unintentional on their part, but the model is working.

Vegas' model of roster construction is what X player did Y team leave available

How does this apply to the Kings? Even in your rhetoric of trading Kopi, Carter etc, how does Vegas align with your model?

I'm confused, my dude

No, I think it's intentional, but it's also not an opportunity any other franchise gets. I think anyone given the choice to start completely blank with an entire roster of NHL ready/experienced middle-six forwards and top-four defenseman and other free assets would take it.

But saying the model is working before it's done anything for a full year OR in the playoffs is premature. It's lended itself towards regular season success thus far for sure but it's also built on some unsustainable situations, like Karlsson's shooting %, contracts that will have to change, etc.

Comparing the Kings' situation--even with a full teardown rebuild--with Vegas' situation isn't fair to either franchise.
