Post-Game Talk: GM 73 | Canucks def. Isles | 5-2 (Sherwood x2, Raty, Forbort, Blueger) | IT’S ALIIIIIIVE!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Giving credit where credit is due while the top end of the team has fallen flat this season you can't complain about the support cast, they've been really good. If Jim Benning could have constructed the middle/bottom of the team this well while he had Pettersson/Miller/Boeser/Hughes/Demko the Canucks probably would have been a contender.

There was an extra 50 million to play with after accounting for EP, Miller, Hughes, Demko and Horvat in 21-22 and somehow they still didn’t make the playoffs.

Agreed on Willander. He’s good enough to play on a bottom pair right now and will get a cup of coffee- but given his upside better to start the year in the AHL. All situations, big minutes playing against men.

I reckon by the end of next year he will have inserted himself into the top 4 which will be a great outcome!

The back end is starting to look very crowded as Forbort is emerging as a legitimately good defenseman but you cannot block E.Pettersson from his development curve at this point. Mancini also fits the 6D role like a glove and brings some offensive flair.

Hughes-Hronek
M.Pettersson-Myers
Elias Pettersson-Mancini
Forbort-Willander

I think Willander plays the year in the AHL next season

Tonight’s Game
  • Obviously Demko was really good for them; especially in the first half of the game
  • Team didn’t love their first two periods but the third was their best
  • Sometimes if you feel like you’re not playing your best as a team, or an individual, you need to find a period to excel
Forbort
  • Is a calming influence; a leader that’s really good on the PK
  • Has supplied some offence; Foote called him a sneaky offensive player
Goals From Unlikely Sources
  • Couple of shot passes were nice to see
  • Depth scoring helps
  • At this time of the year, and where the Canucks are right now, they need depth scoring
Raty
  • For him, scoring the goal is about building confidence
  • Always good for a young player to get a goal or an assist; really locks you in for the next game
Lankinen
  • Is doing well; had a good practice and is available
  • Wanted to get him some rest and could have backed up tonight
  • Not quite sure if he’ll play next game or the game after
  • Is ready to go
Demko
  • Team doesn’t like the 2-on-1s
  • Made a hell of a save and in a different game maybe they score but Demko says it’s his job to stop those
  • Need to limit those chances, especially early in the game

The odds are still stacked against the Canucks making it this year.....but it's impossible to overrate the importance of these games to young guys like Lekkerimaki, Raty and EP25.

They look like they belong--and will be instrumental for a better season for the Canucks in 2025-26.

I think this is why we hired Tocchet, get a guy who has a decent system that with buy-in can squeeze results out of a limited roster.

I don't think anyone could have predicted the injuries and lack of production from the likes of JTM, EP and Demko.

Still I don't think the team has played to the system to its fullest extent all season. We're finally seeing a bit more consistency recently but the only issue is that it might be too little too late. And ironically it's coming just as injuries are hitting the team again.

Hughes - Willander
E-Pettersson - Hronek
M-Pettersson - Mancini

Myers flipped for a 2nd and 3rd at the draft

Is going to hit like crack cocaine
Chaos Giraffe is not going anywhere. At least not this offseason. Yes, Mancini, Willander and D-Petey are promising but all three still face a significant development curve. If the Canucks actually want to win next year, Myers will be a big part of that. I would also not be surprised to see Forbort return at a reasonable cap hit. No need to rush Willander. When he's ready, the Canucks will make room for him.

Nice game. Gutting out points and getting contributions up and down the lineup. If only they figured out this way of playing 50 games earlier....

Also, I said it earlier this year but I do think Hughes is the best player in the world right now. No one impacts the game as much as he does.

Demko...unlike when he returned from injury the first time this year he actually looks like he's moving normally this time. That said I expect he'll get hurt again.

Many may not like it due to the impact on draft position, but they should play the living Hell out of Demko down the stretch to see if his body can handle it. Need to get some read on if he can handle ~50 games a year.

picks 12-18 all seem to be a similar tier of player in this draft, so whether they miss or sneak into the playoffs they'll likely be drafting the same quality of player (unless they move the pick)

Yep. Seems to be a draft with some high end talent early that then falls off quickly. It will be ones of those drafts where outside the top 4 it will be hard to predict when players will be taken. Most of what I have read has 1-4 as Tier 1, 5-8 as Tier 2 and then, well, "the rest of the players".

My review of UBS:

So, you take a train for 30 minutes and get on a shuttle bus. Everyone has beer. Even the kids, for some reason.

Anyway, security is minimal and Heineken is the beverage of choice. I had 2, and too many fries. More on that later.

Islanders fans are more sad, the closer they sit to the ice.

Hot British girls love the Canucks. My GF astutely pointed that out. Obviously, I wouldn't have noticed, otherwise.

We took victory photos with many groups of Canucks fans. It was actually fun.

I ate many fries but my stomach, to your concern, is presently undisturbed.
