Given the nature of acquiring top-4 defenceman and the contract he signed, I’d do that trade every time.

Team is so banged up. Myers and Garland both nursing their way thru this game.
Forbert - Mancini getting tough matchups as NJD try to get their best out against them.
Raty is so heavy footed. First step labouriously slow. Just don't see him as any kind of long term answer. Him and Karlsson both struggling.
Hughes just magical.
Can't see the team going into the future) with both Denko (looking fine) and Lakanin. (although some paying one goalie about as much as they make combined) Wonder if either, or both, have any restrictions on trade possibilities?

Rookie who will have some moments and has skills give Footer and Gonchar some time with him yet .

Yeah, you can think of giving up that 1st rounder for a 1.5ish million discount, with the way the cap is projected to explode + how many teams have money available this offseason, a #3 defenseman that's just 28 years old would definitely get a minimum of 7 million (and no guarantees we get him, we could've been left holding the bag like we did with Guentzel)

When they made that trade, I thought NY would figure shit out. They just look so bad that I think that pick has more value come the summer as an unprotected pick. Or even if they’d waited til the deadline to deal it.
And then you add in just how bad things have gone since then. Just sucks. In a vacuum, ya, M Petey’s been so good. But factoring all these context, I’d redo that if I knew they would bomb the deadline and we’d have the injuries that we have now

Unlike Canadian networks, Amazon understands the assignment when it comes to sports television. Sportsnet isn't EXCITING to watch. The Americans understand how exciting sports are and how much of an event game night is for lots of sports fans.
This type of game is right up the alley of the type of game Tocchet wants to coach, I'd actually be surprised if we lose today.
