Post-Game Talk: GM 72 | Canucks def. Devils in SO | 4-3 (Suter, Lekkerimaki, & Garland) (SO: DeBrusk & Lekkerimaki) | LEKKERIMAK-YEEEEAAA!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
You will never see that happen again IMO. That was the dumbest trade in sports history. If I was a Mavericks fan, I would burn all of my merchandise and never watch another game for the rest of my life.
There were literal riots (mini ones) when it happened. American Airlines Center was vandalized.

I also find it very hard to believe Hughes walks to New Jersey considering how integral he is to this team. It’s HIS team. Make him happy and he stays. Don’t do anything stupid.

Probably the only time I would trust Aquilini to do everything in his power to keep him here.

Aquilini knows Hughes is his meal ticket. He is a lot of things, but being someone to piss away his unicorn isn't one of them. He'll do whatever it takes to keep Hughes here.

If he doesn't, he needs to sell the team immediately.

Prior to this year which should be considered a complete outlier his career pace was ~30pts/82GP. He's not a 15 point player. He's a 25-35 point guy with all those points coming 5-on-5. Along with what else he brings that is a player with value. $3 mil a year which is slightly below the mean salary (3.5 mil) and slightly above the median (2.5 mil). The contract is in line with the quality of player.

He’s 28 and only played full season’s in the NHL twice (excluding this year as you say).

His career average is minor leaguer.

I don’t hate the player but we disagree on his pedigree and value. We can agree that we both hope the player gets well and outperforms his contract.

NBA is also very different with the luxury taxes and stuff. That trade was beyond moronic but you can trace it back to ownership not wanting to pay luxury tax and them not being able to make a casino to make it up the cost as a reason.

With the NHL and the hard cap, there is no reason to not offer whatever to keep Hughes around.
