Post-Game Talk: GM 72 | Canucks def. Devils in SO | 4-3 (Suter, Lekkerimaki, & Garland) (SO: DeBrusk & Lekkerimaki) | LEKKERIMAK-YEEEEAAA!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I could totally live with losing seasons of a team that gives a shit and works hard each night. It’s nice that this team seems to have found that worker bee mentality of late - it was gone way too much this season. Hopefully it’s not too little too late.

Yeah, this is the attitude the team had last year and down the stretch when Tocchet first took over.

The locker room drama mid-season seemed to take away a ton of the team's mental energy, and the system falls apart when that happens.

It's one reason I'm still cautiously optimistic moving forward, regardless of the outcome of this season.

(The other being that the team's 5 on 5 expected vs real goals differential this year is garbage thanks to Silovs play/Demko's slow start + injuries/overplaying Lankinen, which I'm betting normalizes next year.)

Whos the last franchise player that just left a team to sign with the current best team in the league then proceeded to win a cup? It just doesn't happen. This is Quinn Hughes team. He's not a quitter. Best thing he can do for himself and his legacy is bring the first Stanley Cup to Vancouver as the captain of the team. He's going to do it.
No, i couldn't think of a good example, maybe teemu selanne when he joins the ducks? That being said, i would be so happy to be wrong, we all hope he signs.

Reason for your belief?
Same reason oiler fans feel that way about #97 or the numerous other examples. He's been here since he was 19, is the captain and usually the real character players of his stature tend to view staying with one team as notch on their belt.
Its almost always the case in these scenarios a player signs an 8 year deal upon UFA status which brings him to 35, by then he's likely married with kids in school and thinking about his legacy after.

The only way I see him leaving is maybe on the backend of his next deal if the team sucks and is entering a rebuild maybe a mutual split. People who say he will bolt to NJ aren't based in reality, people who have a life and family's don't usually uproot their life just to work with their siblings.

I predict he signs the biggest contract in NHL history, or at the very least for a Dman since by the time he's due to be re-signed the cap will be 111 million and #97 will already be signed.

That's my take anyway.

This team has had every reason to quit with how things have gone this season yet they keep battling.

Still believe they will fall short just due to injuries and the Blues being on fire with a soft schedule but still a very commendable effort.

Can't seem to buy a bounce, not enough firepower even when healthy, but they keep clawing.

Lekk should not be coming out of the lineup, he's needed on this team right now even if it's as a 4th line specialist. With how little skill and shooting talent this roster has, he's a key piece in certain situations.

Oh, and Hughes is out of this world good. I honestly believe he'd be around 90 points right now instead of 68 if he played behind a good forward group.

I dont know, players of his calibre might want to win a stanley cup at least once in his career. Not trying to troll, but can we be the team that give him that chance?
Vancouver has just as good of a chance at a cup as anyone else over the course of Quinns career.
We have an owner who isn't cheap, a very good and young Dcorp, a star 1C and G despite what people say about EP and Demko, tons of cap space and a city that has zero problem attracting player's,
I'd go as far as saying even American players (compared to the rest of Canada)
Looking at the oilers and McDavid, and given their roster current and future and no track record of actually attracting high-end players and the fact they rank just ahead of buffalo and Winnipeg in players that have them on their no trade list, I'd say oiler fans should be worried.
That being said #97, like Quinn seems like the type that would remain loyal as long as the organization does everything they can to be competitive.

Hell if he hadn't missed 14 games he'd be at 90 lol.

If this team makes the playoffs after all the shit that's happened he deserves the hart IMHO.
Other fanbases gushing about him tonight pertaining to his game and minutes when us nuck fans have been seeing these performances all year.
He is truly a special, special player that right now has no weakness to his game and I'd bet the type R I no longer own that he would be a kick penalty killer

There's still so much upside with this team with Lekk, Willander, and EP25 just breaking into the big club, and lots of cap space, and I'm sure Hughes sees the exact same thing. I think all it would take is to have team at least showing progress from this year for him to re sign. We don't have to be an elite team in the next year.

Suter
  • Has played him everywhere
  • Smart guy; is a system guy; is like another assistant coach for them

It really is a wonder why management was not more aggressive in re-signing Suter right when Miller had been traded?

There's little chance Suter was asking $4m+ early on.

Can’t compete with crazy.

We got Suter from the bargain bin. If he’s holding out for a huge payday, we probably need to go back to the bargain bin.

Dakota Joshua is starting to shape up like a cautionary tale.

I've got sympathy for Joshua given his situation, but his food speed was questionable last year. Has to have a great offseason.

But did he say he wants to win?
