As a lifelong Canuck fan I thank the Gods in heaven that I'm alive to watch a guy like Quinn Hughes play hockey in Vancouver.

He's not just the best d-man in the NHL right now, he's one of the best to ever play the game. An almost unfathomable 32.17 minutes of ice-time tonight. It's almost like he's playing in a different league than any other guy on the ice.

Hughes is still only 25. Is it possible that we're seeing him reach an even higher level of play? Is he going to be even better in the future? How is this even possible?

What a beautiful post to sign off to.

Have a good night, VanJack, and

God Bless the Vancouver Canucks

I honestly can’t get over how amazing Amazon Prime Hockey is.
I dunno how the logistics would work but I really hope they play a major role on the next tv deal.

Everything about their broadcasts are top notch and if this was a *dip the toes in the water" type thing I'd say it's been a massive success.

Their show on Thursday is also great.
Most people already have prime so we except for when the nucks are playing, we get a free game every Monday.
Hell even the little hit pieces they have during commercials where they focus on players involved in the game that's on justs adds to the overall production value.

What I like a lot in terms of growing the game is just the massive amount of new fans that being on prime opens up.

Nice to see the team just keep working Hughes leading the fight kids coming in making a difference in a season of almost unending chaos and injuries they don't quit .
Future d with Hughes anchoring is going to be dominant.
Get a couple nasty wingers to push back and they can do well )

Nice to see Lekkermaki showing those high level skills but this game was, again, about Quinn Hughes. Showing Bobby Orr type game control. It's like you're playing hockey and there's a guy whose got the puck all the time (or all the time he wants it) and you are helpless to do anything about it. Amazing display and you just hope you can find players to put in around him that can make this team legitmately competive with the top teams.

Good

Hughes - actually superbly good.

Lekkermaki - Needs to be able to get more to positions where he can use his scoring ability. That said, he might already be as good of a shooter as there is on this team.

Demko - for first game back did well. Little chance on any of the goals and fought his way thru to a win.

Suter - at this point, little drop off losing Pettersson and having Suter play 1st line center. Indication of how much Suter is improving and how much Pettersson has fallen off this season. Turning into a must re-sign.

M. Pettersson - other than Hughes best d-man. Showing more offense as the season goes on.

DeBrusk - doing what he is getting paid to do. People might go on about the nice shot Lekkermaki made in shoot out, but DeBrusk put away his shot equally as well.

Not so Good

Raty - has trouble in transition and getting back defensively. Too much start and stop hockey - got to somehow stay in the flow of the play. As Lekkermaki demonstrated in this game, having wheels is an absolute essential.

Karlsson - not nearly enough in the play. Again skating is an issue.

Joshua - poor on defense and not contributing much offensively. Game time reduced in this game. Wasn't getting there to get anything done.

Others

Mancini - some good, some not so good. Him and Forbort had trouble getting the puck out at times and making plays coming out of their end. Might go back to EP2 next game. Long term Mancini looks like a good bet, but he needs more experince to develop a more mature NHL game IMO.

Boeser - no goals but he has definitely upped his overall play lately, and on this road trip. Question becomes why isn't he doing this more of the time?

What a pleasure it is to watch these telecasts! When you watch the locally produced ones, you feel you are back in the pre-Industrial period. Only drawback is you can't fast forward the ads - which is troublesome when you are already paying for the service.

I sure hope they can build a winning team around him. What a difference Demko makes. I mean, Lankinen has been full value, but if Demko can share the load without re-injuring himself, this is an entirely different team.

What makes Hughes so superlative, is his understanding of the game, along with his fantastic skill set and skating, makes him a unicorn. It's bizarre how easily he pushes the puck ahead of himself to avoid being stripped of the puck and then collects and dekes through a couple of opponents, all while waiting for openings to present themselves. Have to say, he's worth the price of admission alone.

Hopefully he encourages the rest of his teammates to raise their games.

I had to stop watching with the Canucks down by one in the third. The highlights are unreal.

You have to tip your hat to this gutsy team. They're minus so many guys, but you know they'll battle right to the end.

So many positives in this game--but led by Lekkerimaki and Demko. I think it might be OK to get excited about Lekkerimaki. He's a goal-scorer, pure and simple. And these last 10 games are going to be so important for his development.

Even though they're still likely to fall short.....these last 10 games will be so important to the development of their younger players.

My only complaint is Forbort instead of EP25. Unless he's hurt, sick or something, he needs to play.
I fully admit to being a homer but I still think we sneak in, assuming we get at least EP and Hogz back after the trip.
We need Demko to be bubble Demko but if we win are games in hand on the blues ( I thinks it's us or them) we only have to win one more game over ten and it stands to reason a team that played like a lottery team until the break and has already won six straight, is more than likely to cool off, unless people really think they are the best team in the league?
With our Dcorp and goaltending combined with the system we play, I think we can lock it down and play low even hockey over the next three games until reinforcements are hopefully ready.

I'm not going to gush over him until we know he's staying for good. It still doesn't feel real.

Demko made some saves he shouldn’t have been able to make.

Hughes looks all worldly.

Our prized rookie looked great.

It’s a nice day to be a Canucks fan. Will need to keep this up and hope for some out of town help.
You’re a humble guy so I know you aren’t going to bring it up.

But, my man, you just said this last game. And what a call you made foreshadowing tonight’s game

Because, I believe, with Demko we win this game.

I say that, without blaming Lankinen.

Just like Q. Hughes can do things that M. Pettersson cannot do, doesn’t mean that M. Pettersson is costing the team.

Tonight’s Game
  • One of those games where each team pushed on the other
  • Guys were positive on the bench
  • Had some chances in OT
  • Gutsy effort
Demko
  • The save in OT is vintage Demko
  • Really proud of him; has been a tough 6 weeks for him and he’s on the right track
  • Didn’t have many practices and it’s hard to jump into a game like this
  • Was terrific tonight
Lekkerimaki
  • Trying to get him some chemistry with linemates
  • Looking to get him more minutes
  • His goal was a goal scorers goal; was an impressive one
  • Was a guy feeling from Marko Torenius to put him in the shootout
  • Torenius radioed to Svejkovsky for them to use Lekkerimaki
  • Goalie coaches usually have a lot of input in shootouts
  • Boeser was next in line
Suter
  • Has played him everywhere
  • Smart guy; is a system guy; is like another assistant coach for them
Even Keel
  • Trying to find consistency
  • Had a good effort against the Rangers and had a pretty good effort tonight
  • They are hanging in there
  • After you lose a game, coaches can’t be upset the next day; need to get back to the teacher mode, energy mode, and give guys confidence
  • In December, you can be a little hard on players but right now you have to let it go
Raty
  • Very good at faceoffs
  • Still need to work with him on the defensive aspect of hockey; where to go down low
  • It’s a fast league in the NHL
Lankinen
  • Didn’t feel that great in the Ranger game and wanted to get him a couple of days off
  • Thinks he will be available on Wednesday
  • Won’t reveal any more because he’s been getting in trouble by giving the media timelines

We are doomed the day Quinn leaves or retires. Are standard of watching a single player perform will be to high to be satisfied then anything less then what we’ve seen from Hughes.
