Post-Game Talk: GM 66 | Canucks def. Hawks | 6-2 (Hughes, Myers, Garland, EP40, Suter, Aman) | I’m blind, I’m deaf, I wanna be a ref!

Good win but of course let's not get carried away - it is after all just the Chicago Birdies ft. Bedard.

We gonna have some stiff competitions coming up.

Not the most impressive win with how bad Chicago is but it was nice to have a comfortable lead for most of the game which allowed the coaches to roll the lines. Hughes still ended up as the high man @ 23 minutes but that's a light jog for him.

Wouldn't say it was a confidence inducing game for Silovs. The 2-on-1 save when it was 0-0 was big but other than that he didn't really have to do much and he looked uncomfortable a lot of the time. Assuming there are no more injuries to the other two guys, that might be the last Arty Party for this season.

Really sucks for Chytil, who looked like was going to get killed in open ice eventually the way he skates but instead it happened on a chicken shit board by a player whose stupidly is unfortunately quite familiar to us Canucks fans. Hoping it was whiplash and not a concussion?

PK continues to do work. Best in the league as of late and will be a big reason we make the playoffs (if we do). They just really seem to be in sync right now; whenever it's time to pressure they jump at it and give support but when they need to back off into formation they hold strong and don't let much get through the middle.

The number of dirty hits has become a problem the Canucks need to address. Their approach to team toughness isn’t deterring opponents from taking runs. This has been happening all season—Boeser took a brutal hit early on and hasn’t been the same, Hughes has been targeted all year and is playing injured, and even the rookies aren’t being protected. Lekkerimäki was leveled in Montreal, and D Petey suffered a concussion against Calgary with no response.

Feel bad for Chytil and hoping for good news. Rangers fans already speculating whether that hit is a career ender with his concussion history.

Canucks strength is on defense but finally showed a little offense in this one. Yet, have to acknowledge that a good deal of the offense came from the back end. Canucks have shown ability to score in bunches and that was fortunately true a couple of times in this game.

Good

Myers - very strong game both ways. Had big influence on this game. Skating very well and able to cover a lot of territory tonight. Worked well with M. Pettersson. Anyone who didn't want him resigned (especially at the price) has been proven wrong.

Hughes - looks to be back to old self. Shot definitely improved. Him and Hronek forming an very good pairing. Both again controlling much of the play and effective in getting the puck out of their end and also in keeping pressure on in the offensive end.

Garland - beautiful goal and some nice set ups. Think he was the top forward in this game.

Sherwood - very good on the forecheck and big contributor on some of the goals. Getting back to form he showed earlier in the season. Could say much the same comment for Suter (big need to resign him given the Chytil situation), Blueger and Joshua.

Hoglander - appears to be turning a corner. Have to hope he continues his late season improvment. Fears about his contract not so obvious as they were before. Thought he was the best player on his line.

Pettersson - continues to show improvement over earlier in the season. Yet I thought there were some glitches in his puck handling and puck movement that reminded you of his previous poor play.

Poor

Boeser - got to be said. Just not getting anything done. Saw a couple of times were he hung back in the mid ice zone (or even inside the blue line) instead of getting back on the back check. Looked to be hoping for a turnover and maybe a chance to score. Noteworthy that he was the only minus player for the Canucks in this game.

Others

DeBrusk - not much involved in anything. A player that disappears in too many games.

Chytil - worst of all fears realized tonight. Player was likely broken before he came here. Check didn't look that bad (although it might get reviewed) but probably Chytil is out for a long period. He wasn't doing much but team doesn't have the depth to really replace him. Likely see Raty or Sasson back up.

Silovs - survived but continues to look shaky. Not angling correctly making relatively easy saves look difficult. Puck handling remains a big concern. Also there has to be huge concern about his ability to track long distance shots when their is any kind of screen.

Next game is huge and good that Lakanin was given a rest.

Wish the best for Chytil but what a stupid player to target in a trade. We all knew he was broken before we even got him. Hopefully not as serious as we thought but could possibly be a career ender.

Awesome to see the team score 6 goals. This season has been nothing but adversity and it would be so impressive to see this team squeak into the playoffs. They deserve it!

Did Tocchet say anything post game calling out the refs?

If team isn’t going to do anything fans should start throwing shit on the ice, give them good reason for the tunnels. Absolute f***ing joke two games in a row dirty totally unnecessary and reckless hits taking out our players and crickets

The camera caught Chytil making his way down the tunnel, and he was throwing his gloves and sticks in despair. I think he's been down this road often enough, to know what's coming.

Unfortunately acquiring Chytil came with some huge red flags. I'd be surprised if he's back for the playoffs--assuming the Canucks even make it. But maybe Raty is ready. I wonder if Lekkerimaki gets back in for tomorrow's game against Utah?

Tyler Myers is having the best season wearing this jersey, he’s completely transformed his game, I can’t even remember the last time he made a big mistake

Personally I’d have Prongers number on speed dial and call once a day until he gets fed up about hearing about it.

I’ve always felt hard done by at key points by the refs but this is flat out unsafe, we know if we retaliated they’d f***ing throw the book at us and not the instigator.

Tonight’s Game
  • Hoping to build some confidence from the game
  • Still thinks they needed more shots in the 1st half of the game; funnel pucks at the net
  • Rush game was pretty good for them
Chytil
  • Didn’t get an explanation on the non-call
  • Does not have an update on him
Using Four Lines
  • The team is built to roll 4 lines
  • Another positive is that they play again tomorrow so no one was overtaxed
  • Nice to see that Hughes only had 22 minutes (chuckles)
Tomorrow’s Game Against Utah
  • Need to treat every game like a playoff game
  • Utah practiced today
  • Utah is a rush team and Canucks’ need to dial in on how they are going to defend the rush; if they defend the rush they’ll be okay
Shots on Net
  • Had chances early on to shoot and missed the net
  • Need to keep practicing
  • Confidence issue; when you’re not scoring, you defer
  • Waiting too long to shoot and allowing defenders to get their stick in the way
Elias Pettersson
  • Was quiet for a while but scored and helped ice the game
  • Tells his players that they can have an average first two periods and still rise to the occasion
  • They need him to elevate his game like tonight
  • Still the same guy; a great kid and is having a little bit more fun
  • Not putting the world on his shoulders and is enjoying the playoff run
  • Should be enjoying this because pressure is fun
Silovs
  • Has had a tough year and is trying to find himself as a goalie
  • Hopefully this win gives him a lot of confidence
Aman
  • Thought he was good tonight
  • Gave the 4th line a bit of an identity
  • It’s hard to not play for 2-3 weeks; is at the rink early and stays late
  • He’s trying to become a regular in the NHL
Message to the Team
  • Recovery is huge; eat some food and therapy
  • Player option if they want to come to the rink and stretch
  • Will be a tough game tomorrow; will really need to manage the puck
  • Is already thinking about tomorrow
Forward Depth
  • Lines are getting a little bit of chemistry
  • Have been better in the last 2-3 weeks even if that hasn’t shown on the scoreboard
  • Have done a lot offensive video in the last three weeks; more than ever
  • Garland is driving a line, Pettersson is playing well, and Suter is playing really well for them
  • Suter has stepped up his game in the last 2-3 weeks; when the waves get high, he’s calm and they are lucky to have him
Team Response to Hits to the Head
  • Is a touchy one for him; doesn’t know how to answer it
  • Today’s game isn’t about grabbing the other team and pummelling them
  • Have to have a wolfpack mentality
First Period Was Only 22 Minutes
  • Wasn’t a lot of stress; fast pace benefited the Canucks
  • Knew the Blackhawks would push in the 2nd; didn’t like the Canucks game in the 2nd period
  • Wasn’t a heavy game so thinks it will help with recovery
Playoff Run
  • Looking for playoff experience; these are huge games for Mancini and Junior
  • Every game matters; 3rd periods, PKing, or scoring on the PP; this is valuable for the team and organization
Garland
  • Sees the team and wants to drive energy
  • When there’s a lull, he feels like he has to be a pest
  • Is kind of banged up; plays hurt a lot
Fan Chants
  • Great for the guys; should boost you up and give you energy
  • Haven’t had a great home record so nice to put a show on for them
  • When fans are cheering, it really helps the players
Myers
  • Played really well last year too
  • Since Tocchet has joined the team, is the player that the coaching staff is most proud how his game has evolved and his leadership skills
  • Very low maintenance guy
  • Goes full bore every practice
  • Very easy to coach and is reaping the benefits that he has bought in to what the coaches are selling
  • Comes into camp in-shape; working on his shot in the offseason; does all the preparation correctly
  • If he has a bad period or night, he’s able to move past it; maybe in the past it would linger but has improved his mental state

Totally agree with the comments about MIA Boeser and shaky Silovs.

It’s wild how much of a non factor Boeser is right now. He’s back to his funk years but worse. Just nothing happening. Hopefully mgmt is fully aware and doesn’t throw a desperate contract offer his way.

It’s been real nice over the last long while not worrying too much about goaltending but my god does Arty not inspire any confidence. Angles are dreadful, puck handling a train wreck, can’t stop shots that he should be stopping. They gotta come up with another direction this summer cuz unfortunately Arty’s not the answer.
