Doesn’t feel like a 4-1 game. Actually feel they’ve played well. But our failure to convert on any of the scrambles around the Dallas net where DeSmith was flailing is killer.

It felt like a 2-1 game, but Dallas has better finishers. Honestly, pretty much what I expected but they didn’t back down…other than Boeser. Why is he so low in the D zone all the time? He will never close the point man that low with his skating.

By the end of the game the Canucks probably "deserved" to win but IMO could have still played better considering Dallas was on a B2B with travel. Didn't really feel like to me that we outworked them.

Difference was their top forwards produced, ours didn't, and their goalie was better than ours.

Once again needed production from the $24M trio of Petey, Boeser and Debrusk and once again it wasn't anywhere to be found. Petey hits the post early and then was invisible for the rest of the game other than when he lost a defensive zone draw that led to a goal against.

Main positives were that the PK remains strong and Junior keeps proving he belongs.

Garland, Blueger and Joshua had some good shifts and they will likely start together next game.

Hoglander, Chytil and DOC continue to be noticeable for the most part but can't be relied on to carry production.

I’m so tired of reading “but we played well”

This isn’t the try league, it’s the get it done league.
You're not wrong but this is an average roster even with Hughes in the lineup.

Take out our only offensive catalyst and "a decent effort" is about the best we'll get lol

Pettersson has 2 good games then is back to not making a difference. It’s so polarizing how good he can be then suddenly turn into a pumpkin.

Boeser should’ve been moved. Full stop.

This team needs like 3 legitimate top 6 forwards lol

From a team that was scoring a whole bunch but can't play D to the exact opposite.

Not sure why but that loss felt like the season to me - no playoffs.
I feel the same way. I just don't think playoffs are in the cards this year anymore. The team would have to get red-hot over the remaining games, and given the current group that just doesn't seem likely. Gonna need some work in the off-season to fix this and try again next year.

So for some reason I was blacked out for this game on ESPN+. The Blues is a given as I’m in Missouri but why the hell am I having Dallas games blacked out?

Talent will win out in the end. Canucks likely had as many good scoring chances but the combination of Desmith and poor execution on thier chances by the Canucks torpedoed any opportunity to get a win. this Looks like that will be the patternfor the rest of this season. Team doesn't get over the top goal tending by the overused Lakanin they are likely losers.

Good

Forbert - showing greater mobility and speed than most anywhere else he has played. Right now you want him re-sign him but also fear he might revert to the form he has shown earlier in his career and end up being a Soucy type situation.

Hronek - another solid game. Him and EP2 looked good together Might be a combo moving ahead into next year. Hronek does work hard to faciliate good room for his partner.

Not Good

Boeser - one meaningless shot. Looks totally uninspired and maybe sulking. If Allvin isn't blind, hockey dumb or isn't being undercut by Aquaman, then he has to see what most every fan is seeing. This franchise simply can't over pay (and IMO go beyond 2 or 3 mill) or give him much term. Without Miller around to do all the work and set him up, Boeser is nothing. He'll not get more from other teams as the trade dead line lack of interest indicates. Almost see it as positive if Boeser feels slighted and refuses to come back given the immense danger of giving him a bloated contract. He is what he is, and will likely get worse as he ages.

Ohters

Sherwood - could say he played well but like many others on the team that is mostly based on expectation. Don't expect a lot so anything he does is a positive. That's true of so many players on the team. Lot of the team is made up of mid tier players and thus if they play above mediocre you are inclined to say they were good. Could put Joshua, O'Connor, Hoglander Suter, Blueger etc...in this category. Work away but rarely display any top level talent.

Mancini - mostly a matter of increasing his coverage area around his net. Times were he was reacting more than initiating and ended up getting behind the play. Still He had some good moments and is showing enough to have some long term belief in him. Best aspect of the game for the Canucks was having younger prospects show promise.

In the end, these types of games illustrate the need for the team to accept that they can't compete with any high level team. They need to accept the fact that the only path to being competitive is to sacrifice the present for the future. This team needs more talent and most often you have to fall back to get that talent.
