GDT: GM 58 | Vancouver Canucks @ Los Angeles Kings | Feb 26 | 7:00PM PST | SNET

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Canucks will fall behind 2-1 and then defend the deficit to keep it a low scoring loss. Then Tocchet will have his usual presser and say how proud he was of the defensive effort and talk about how close the team came to win. Rinse and repear.

That is Tocchet’s style, just like Green

Zero offence because every player has been neutered offensively and programmed to be a defensive zombie. Team is boring and nobody dares to take an offensive chance. There is zero offensive system and even worse special team play.

Tocchet was never the answer. Lifetime losing record and had zero resume to qualify for a head coaching gig.

PA has made horrible GM moves, Not sure Rutherford is even alive.

EP has been ruined

This franchise is a mess.

But keep buying overpriced tickets folks

Canucks are rapidly entering 'must win' territory every night out now. If you look at their dismal OT record; plus their total of regulation and OT wins, they're already behind the eight-ball in the Western Conference.

When it was reported that Hughes had an 'oblique injury' it got my attention. It's the type of injury that can keep baseball players out for months. And hockey is a lot harder on the body than pro baseball.

So I've heard no indication that Hughes will be back for the Kings game. And without him, it's RIP on the season.

Nah, he'll get traded on deadline day to Minnesota, and score a hat-trick vs us that night (We play minny on deadline day).

This is the Way.

I would love that for him.

Even if he goes elsewhere and lights it up I wouldn't regret trading him, it just probably wasn't going to happen here especially if Petey is going to keep playing the way he is.

Boeser would look great on a better team. I think he's one of those players that is a product of the situation around him but not in a bad way.

Gonna drop this miniature of Hughes as morale booster, sort of...

On the shield is the skeleton of Pete.

I have a buddy who is very emotional and overreacts to everything. Needs to spout his emotions before they calm down.

For example, when we dealt J.T. Miller he texted me that he was done with the Canucks.

I shrugged and knew it wasn't true. Went out for dinner with my girlfriend. 3 hours later received a text about the MPetey trade. Who broke it to me? The guy who was 'done' with the Canucks.

Why am I sharing this anecdote?

I think my friend is the mascot for like 60 percent of hfboards.

This very GDT is like 30 percent filled with people saying how uninterested they are in the Canucks.

Right, and if this was a model train forum and you explained that you were here because you were giving up on your past hobby I might believe you.

But you literally couldn't even wait until the game started to go onto the Canucks forum to announce how little you care. And you've done it 10 million times.

You're not going anywhere, so there's no need to pretend that you are.

I'm just not wired that way so I don't get it.
My interest kind of goes up and down. I still care about the franchise's overall direction, but I don't always pay close attention to the games. There are times when I won't miss a game, and if I do, I would always watch the highlights. Other times I miss most games, only check the score and don't bother with the highlights. That's where I was in December/January, but 4 Nations has rekindled my interest in this season.

Boeser (new contract in hand) and Clarke can swap locker rooms after this one.
I explored this idea this morning. First off, no to Clarke. Canucks don't really need a PP specialist 3rd pairing easy minute D.

I'd ask for Alex Turcotte and Liam Greentree. If they are unwilling on Greentree.

Turcotte, 1st 25', Kenny Connors. Not spectacular but Boeser isn't a gem right now.

I do like Connors. Fast physical 200 ft winger although some concern about how offence translates. Very projectable 4th liner PK guy.

They will probably drop tonight's game. They absolutely have to beat the Kraken and Ducks.

You maybe have a few "gimme" games against the Blackhawks, Canadiens and Sharks. But there's a ton of games left against the Stars, Jets, Avs and Golden Knights.

Boring ass team vs another boring ass team

Lmfao I’m probably going to switch the channel after about 10 minutes.

Also I remember there was this one game against the Kings where we scored like 3 goals in the first 6 minutes of the 1st period and then Vanek scored a breakaway slapshot goal.
Vanek. What a throwback. They need a guy with no effs swagger right now.

The Canucks have played .500 hockey for the past 30 games. I don't think they are in gimmie's range. Mtl beat Carolina last night. Van needed OT to beat SJ a few games ago. I would like if the team could all of a sudden pull it all together but I don't see them doing it.

The 4 Nations break really hurt whatever momentum and "good feelings" that the team had built up after the JTM trade. Hopefully Hughes' return will give the team a boost

His breakaway slapshots were hilarious AF and he would score all of them. Boeser and Vanek when they played together later in the season developed really nice chemistry. That 4 and 5 point games they had together against Chicago was really fun to watch and made me excited to see what the future of this teams could look like. Sometimes I look back at that season and I remember that Boeser was really the first player in a really really long time that made me excited to watch Canucks games again after years and years of stale hockey prior.

Oh I agree. It's disingenuous to say this team has a shot of doing something positive this season and you almost hope for them to fully drop out of the playoff race sooner than later so they can maybe look at load managing/shutting guys down. Even guys like Dakota Joshua need a full off-season to train and get back to speed.

Yea, I remember how exciting it was to have an offensive player actually step in and contribute right away. Bo, Kes, the twins, etc had all taken awhile to become threats. Felt like he’d be a consistent top 10 goal scorer over the years. He even carried the puck a decent amount then. And then his shot was never the same and he became reliant on others to drive play.

How so? Only the last wild card is up for grabs and they’re tied with Calgary and Utah at 25 ROW and everyone else in the race has fewer. They’re in a good spot for the tiebreak.

I'd hit "like" or "love" but I still can't. @Vector serious can I get my like button back. PLEASE.

It feels like a reset type of year. For me, I can't bring back this team next year and expect different results. I think in my mind, these are sort of the results I was expecting from last season and not the great season they had. We saw it after the Lindholm trade that, that's what the team was gonna be. They had a good run in the playoffs winning maybe a little more than they should have with rentals. I don't think success will continue if you need rentals like they got last year, every year.
