Vets blew it for the good Kings for the 2nd game in a row.

Kopitar, Brown, Doughty, even Quick should all be disgusted with themselves.

It seems like Kopi only shoots in a shootout and never goes for dekes anymore. I don't get it

When him Brown and DOughty were on the ice in overtime they were playing so safe it was disgusting. Same thing we were complaining about earlier on the PP, and then it continued on into the shootout.

No heart, no creativity, no energy. Maybe they're exhausted from the ridiculous minutes too, but there's not an ounce of guts coming from the core right now.

They played a lot of minutes but still no excuse when Vancouver was playing 2nd game of a back-to-back.

I"m definitely not making excuses for them. I'm more disgusted with them collectively now than I was after that 2015 Sharks series.

But it's more a condemnation of the lie of "four lines Willie" than anything. Doughty played 31 minutes tonight. Kopitar 25 and a half. Wagner 7. Clifford, 2 points and +2, 10 minutes.

Everyone else has demonstrated they can be effective now. There's zero reason to be murdering the core with stupid minutes just for the sake of stupid minutes, whether one believes the season is lost or still going. If it's lost, give the kids time to mature, play tougher matchups sometimes. If it's still going, you need to get your 'stars' some rest, and the kids are outplaying them right now anyway.

And for the love of god someone hide Forbort's skates somewhere.

It has been such a let down. I honestly don't blame Blake for not predicting this collapse before this season. Who would have expected Kopi and Dewey to just fall apart. For Kopitar, I just hope there is something going on because it is not just his lack of production, but his lack of heart. Lazy turnovers, lack of attention to detail and losing nearly every puck battle. Look at Kovalchuk's shift today full of big hits and effort, look at him pumping up his teammates when they score, look at his effort in the shootout. When is the last time you can remember anything close to that from Kopitar?

The thing that bugs me more about Drew is that he's been mostly good, but he KNOWS he's going to play big minutes, so he's playing full-time in 'conserve' mode, letting Forbort chase pucks and make plays, then he has lapses in focus like he did dropping that puck at the end. Cut his minutes down to 22-23 and watch him thrive, you know?

but yeah, for the core lately,

Actually, this is the worst season Doughty has ever had. Since his run of 5 games or so not getting scored on at the beginning of the season, he's been almost Phaneuf level bad. Zero goals at even strength, 7 short handed goals against on the power play, an epic -20 (now the worst on the team by -3). If you want to hang this awful season on someone, Drew Doughty is not a bad candidate.

I know it's heresy to speak poorly of the greatest defenseman the Kings have ever had, but Doughty needs to look himself square in the mirror and pick up his game for next season. It's not about his minutes, and sure, Forbort's dragging him down, but he's better than this.
