SECTION 6 – PHYSICAL FOULS
Rule 41 - Boarding
41.1
Boarding
A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player who
checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that
causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently or
dangerously.
The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with
the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.
There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the
application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player
applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a defenseless
position and if so, he must avoid or minimize contact. However, in
determining whether such contact could have been avoided, the
circumstances of the check, including whether the opponent put
himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously
with the check or whether the check was unavoidable can be
considered. This balance must be considered by the Referees when
applying this rule.

How does this not apply exactly?
Looked legal to me. Got inside position and upended Lewis. Finished his check. Unfortunately Lewis went heavy into the boards, but that's pretty much a hockey play right there. Hopefully Lewis recovers quickly. Looked like a shoulder to me.

That's not finishing your check, that's checking a player with the puck who was about 10 feet from the boards and drove him into them.

Even before he got that fortunate goal, Brodzinski was having a really good game. Maybe some confidence growing? He didn't look tentative at all tonight.

They should have pummeled the guy who hit him.

why? it was a hard, but legal, hit. Players can get hurt on legal checks

That was intent to injure at that time point.

Lewis had no reason to even try to make a play toward the back of the net. They had the lead and were in cruise mode. He should have just tapped the puck towards the net and curled over to the right to the corner, away from any potential check.

He was really aggressive on the forecheck, looked like a different player today. Like you said, hopefully a sign of things to come.

You don't try to push a guy with a hit like that at that speed.. No respect

It was definitely totally legal, it was also definitely totally a punk move.

Lewis should have maybe just put a pillow on goal, but McCann also should have maybe not gone for the total killshot, it's a legal play, just a completely reckless, respect-less play for a defenseless opponent when he could have made an easy play on the puck or a bump. Dude has never hit anyone in his life, to start right then shows cowardice. Same shit as Bergenheim on Richards, do nothing to anyone for 200 games then go for a killshot. Why?

I'm in agreement. It's a 3-1 NHL game, you don't need to be trying to shoot the puck at that spot on the ice. He should have been trying to gain possession and bracing for a hit. Clean, legal hit that messed up Lewis which happens, it's a tough sport. That said I think King fans can forget the notion of attacking an opposing player. The Kings DO NOT have any players on the roster other player fear with because of their fists. The McSorley/Baumgartner/Grimson days are long gone, Clifford and Andreoff strike ZERO fear into other teams. It's time to let it go.

I definitely agree that no one is scared of Kings' players, but at some point it's just about sticking up for your guy, i.e. Kempe, Pearson. Not like anyone on the ice was scary for Florida.

Something that always sticks in my head is Kopitar getting absolutely destroyed by...Giordano? at our bench. Completely clean hit, still pointless, still on your star player.

It was Phaneuf in the corner, racing to stop an icing I think.

Brown was always getting rocked by Giordano.

It’s 2018 guys. Clean hits no longer warrant attacking the opposing player who committed it.

It’s just never going to be like that again.

It's Nice to see Clifford win a fight, but i'm still worried about him dropping the gloves. He's had to many concussions.
