Ironic that the only player that doesn't look better with Miller gone is Pettersson. Well, and Boeser. Team looks like an actual team again, though, so the early returns are good. Don't know if it's due to better balance, adrenaline, or bad juju going out the door, but it's nice to see. M Pettersson reminds me of Salo without the shot.

How did Chytil look tonight?

Missed the game, but saw the full game vs Detroit. Saw he had close to 21 minutes tonight - I can't recall him ever getting over 20 mins in any game with the Rangers. Happy for the kid he's getting a real opportunity.

We were damned lucky to escape the 1st period at 0-0 but the last 40 minutes was outstanding. And fascinating to see the way Colorado totally imploded, especially in the fallout of the Rantanen trade. Things might not be great in that room.

- HUGE game for Demko. Needed that so, so badly. Best performance since his injury by a mile. First good performance since his injury, really.

- EP25 is going to be really, really difficult to take out of the lineup. Standout performance for the 2nd game in a row. First game where his mean streak really came out.

- Hronek was godawful on that late PP but absolutely fantastic otherwise. 2 assists, nearly 25 minutes, tons of it against their top line.

- Myers-MPettersson also very good. Pettersson really does look like a tall, skinny Swedish Tanev.

- Soucy played one of his best games of the season. More of that, please.

- Chytil *looked* really impressive although I don't think it really amounted to much in terms of quality chances. But his energy levels and ability to carry the puck into the opposing zone were one of the things that dragged us back into the game.

- O'Connor is just a really, really solid player. All over the puck all night. Forces so many turnovers. Sign him.

- Linus Karlsson is really finding something on this callup. Has some extra zip in his skating, playing an involved game, puck management is always very sound.

- good Debrusk again?

- it's a good thing Boeser scored because otherwise his fumbling of the puck all night might have been the biggest story if Colorado had come back. But that goal was huge.

- Pettersson ... same old. Pretty solid defensively. Not moving his feet (aside from one rush in the 2nd where he took a pass at speed in the neutral zone, stood out like a sore thumb because of how little we've seen this in the last year), deferring to linemates, fumbling plays. A player hiding and trying not to screw up instead of trying to take charge of games.

- Joshua played one of his best games of the season. You can tell when he's playing well because he starts winning all kinds of these puck battles where you think he's going to be too slow and then somehow plays the guy with one hand on his stick and somehow wins the puck. And that was happening tonight.

- that late PP was just horrific. There aren't even words for how much the PP needs Hughes.

Probably our best forward for the second straight game. Zone entries are elite, and he controls the ice with the puck. He looks like he’s playing with unlimited confidence right now. I was mad Tocchet couldn’t see how well he was running the PP2 and should’ve moved him up to PP1

Sample size is obviously tiny, but our best forward all season.

His skating has regressed. Watch him, he’s just not on his edges, just painful how slow he is.

Lots of great things, but I have to wonder why we had D.Pettersson available and proceeded to play that crap blue line for so long. It may cost you a playoff spot.

Soucy/Myers was such a disaster, but they refused to bring up anybody. Just kept trotting Juulsen out. Or not playing Brannstrom/Friedman enough. Just inexcusable really, you have to foster internal competition. I do think M-Petey being a seasoned NHL guy makes a big difference though and lets D-Petey play softer minutes.

Gutsy victory when the other guys had their version of Hughes but the Canucks didn't have their own.

A lot to like, most importantly Demko looking like a game-changer again. I think we're nowhere near out of the woods (no pun intended on this night), but that's encouraging.

D-Petey (or as the FlashScore app has him, "Elias Pettersson II.") is a revelation. The callup-to-mainstay narrative is looking like Alex Edler's story so far.

There's just one more eight hundred pound gorilla in the room to deal with, and then we can get to our happy place.

edit: Oh yeah, I hate how they played that 5-on-3. Could have drilled a nail into the coffin and instead they chose to play keepaway.

So frustrating to watch all the guys without the puck stand still.

Was worried seeing them matched up against that Mackinnon - Necas speed monster but they kept them relatively neutralized and to the outside.

Didn’t get buried much for long shifts, speed wasn’t an issue, and Joshua looked better. Still doesn’t have the speed and feel with the hands yet that he showed last year.

It's unfortunate he never got a legit chance on the PP in NY. For the last few years through multiple coaches - Quinn, Gallant, Laviolette - they've always allowed PP1 to play like 1:30-1:45+ of every PP. Chytil's unit would get on after the opposition dumped the puck, they'd have time for one zone entry and if they didn't get in and set up right away that was it. I know our PP1 has been together for a long time and has mostly been deadly year after year, but I'm a firm believer you need these young players (Lafreniere, Chytil, Kakko, etc) to gain some offensive confidence on the PP but they just never got enough of a chance.

I noted that one rush where it looked like Pettersson had speed as well. He can still skate when he has some runway, but there's just no explosiveness. Guy should drag tires around all off season like the Sedins used to. Don't know if it's his knee or just conditioning, but horrible to watch.
