Here’s the problem with M.Pettersen, are you going to get the same M.Pettersen on his next bigger contract because last years contract year hronek isn’t the same as fat cheque hronek this year….players play to their full potential in contract years, then scale it back some now they got their money. Seen this movie over and over

Hronek was excellent this season until his shoulder injury. He's been off since returning but he's played a lot more good games this year than bad.

And it's not like Metey is having any sort of special contract year. He'll likely end up with a pretty average/standard 2nd pair D contract (5-6 years @ 5-6 mil).

He doesn't have the counting stats to demand much more than that.

There are no more acceptable "concepts".
That sounds pretty wild...

So you just willingly ignore most of the things that affect his play?
If he was injured he wouldn't be playing and the #1 issue "around him" has been dealt with.
This is not true.

I know you probably think it is, but its obviously not true to anyone who knows anything about athletic performance.
There is no excuse for him missing that chance in OT, a play he needs to regularly convert on if he's going to take up 10% of the cap. Full stop.
So why did he miss it?

I thought the Canucks played well. The refs blew it several times just like the previous game. I loved how the whole Canuck team looked tonight. DOC, MP, and EPD all look good. I can't disagree with the comments about Boesser. I would love to see him traded. I don't understand the whining about EP40. He was dragged down in front of the net on a scoring chance and it wasn't called. He missed a shot in OT. It happens. With a healthy Hughes I would say we are well above the playoff line. I stopped coming on here for several months because of the guys who always complain and whine. I think I am probably going to hide for a few more months.

I read a theory on another site that Pettersson has started taking finasteride, a testosterone blocking drug that stops hair loss because he doesn’t want to be bald like his dad and that has given him side effects such as brain fog, depression, low libido, etc. and this is the culprit behind his drop in performance. If true, it would be a good excuse. No one wants to be bald.

As a man not much older than Petey who is also on his journey to balding I completely understand, I rescind all my negative comments towards him, and I call for an insta-ban for anyone who questions him going forward.

I am very sorry Petey and hope you can renegotiate your contract to 15M instead to fund more finasteride.

I saw the same post lmfao.

Petey, Brock and Jake need to sit down and figure out a better game plan for how to play. What I saw from Boeser was a player that was still executing the same plays he would if he was on JT Miller’s line - dumping it into the corner for Petey to regain possession and lurking near the side of the net for tap-ins and rebounds. Petey is not Miller. Don’t play like he is and expect him to rise to the challenge.

And don’t get me started on DeBrusk who was fumbling the puck all night long and losing battles along the boards.

For his part, Petey needs to show more leadership as the center on that line. Get your wingers on the same page.

A line is like a mini-team. Everyone plays a proscribed role and you work together. Wasn’t seeing that at all last night.

If EP40 gets traded, I'll just trade my jersey number to either one of D-Petey or MP3 (if he stays). Nice to know we have some options.

I propose we call Marcus Pettersson...Meaty. Petey, D-Petey, M-Petey...Metey...Meaty.

I'm liking Quinning's version above. The Metey one just sounds wrong/uncool to me.

Petey
D-Petey
MP3 or M-Petey

rolls off the tongue nicely

I can believe this. A friend of mine took that and suffered for 10 years with similar symptoms (even after stopping).

Why be so stupid to take it though? As a professional athlete. Just do a hair transplant.

Anyway if it's true they should probably trade him because you don't recuperate from post-Finasteride syndrome easily.

Read propeciahelp.com for example.

I personally loved the addition of the new players. Will be a breath of fresh air, and if Hughes played we would have stomped them in the end. Chytil has speed and size. I am happy to give him the 2C for now. Not like we have other options anyway. So much faster than Miller and he actually plays defence and gets net side of his defender. Something Miller was simply to lazy, poor defensively, and cheaty to care about.

Hopefully we can trade Boeser for something decent. A first rounder would be nice to move to a third team for a younger, speedier player. All of the sudden we would be looking at a team with youth and speed, and the defensive commitment Tocc wants. Definitely liked the vibe of not having bad vibes combined with youthful effort.

O'Connor was also a breath of fresh air. Just gives the team a different feel. Excitement! Pace! Effort! Energy!

As far as penalties in the game people should remember context. No we didn't get any PP's, but they only got 1. I didn't think it was too aggrieves as they didn't want a borderline call to decide the game in the end. Also, Detroit didn't get a single PP the game before either so I would think the referees were conscious of that and letting the game flow.

Defence totally shaping up

Hughes Hronek
MP3 Willander
D-Petey Myers
Forbort Juulsen
Soucy

If D-Petey sticks around we need to look at a trade of one of our left side guys. I would imagine we'll see an improved Soucy next time though. He's definitely on the hot seat.

That being said, Juulsen was solid tonight. Was probably good for him to get away from Soucy.

The season is long and players go through ebbs and flows.

50 games into the season, we need to stop pretending that Soucy is going to play his way through his problems.

Juulsen deserves to get some time away from him. He and EP25 were extremely solid together last night. He was on the ice for 1 scoring chance against - that would have been more like 4 if he was paired with Soucy. It really helps when you have a partner who can move the puck.

They were OK but theres nothing Chytil and Marcus Pettersson did that Tanner Pearson and Luca Sbisa couldnt do.

i think the new guys made me see a couple underlying system issues more clearly

with mp3, when he had the puck in our zone you could see him try to quickly read the breakout and see no options so he had to flip it out

and a bunch of times garland has the puck and is spinning around trying to do everything can to not pass the puck back to the point, but chytil is standing there wondering why garland isn’t passing to him

what this shows me is that the system makes the game hard for our players. a good system simplifies the game for them. yes, juulsen, forbert, desharnais, and myers most of the time can’t make a breakout pass to save their lives. but the forwards are also rarely in a good position to take a good breakout pass without hughes already having beaten one or two guys to create a mismatch. you could see it on mp3’s face, he’s like, wtf? i think when they were figuring out how this team plays, they got way too reliant on hughes being hughes and it was designed around having him back there, but what about the 35 minutes a game he’s not on the ice?

i think it’s the same in the o-zone. is it that they always pass it back to the point instead of taking it to the middle because they are lazy or lack confidence? or is it that the system doesn’t open up high percentage options? so garland is unique because he has figured out a way to always keep the puck moving towards the goal line, but as a fairly low vision player, he has robotically trained himself to do this without collaborating with his teammates. again, in his first shift you could see it on chytil’s body language. he was going, wtf?

that said, obviously ep2 was excellent and looks like he should stay in the lineup for good. i thought hronek had a fabulous game. and maybe just maybe mp3 and myers can form an octopus pair.

but best case scenario is still either acquiring a RD who can credibly play with hughes, or willander being that guy, so we can run mp3 and hronek on the second pair, and let whichever two of ep2, soucy (who can play either side), and myers is playing best be the third pair.

we’re also one impact forward short. would love to see boeser flipped for someone’s first rounder, then turned around and flipped for a boeser replacement. but we still need someone on top of that. i’m enthusiastic about chytil but is he really a 2C?

for now, the configuration i’d go with is

hoglander ep1 karlsson
debrusk chytil boeser
doc suter garland
joshua bluegers sherwood

until joshua rounds into shape and we can reunite him with garland and whichever of suter and bluegers is feeling it. for petey, i’d much rather have him asserting himself with two lower skilled guys who move their feet and have hands that aren’t completely stone than failing with two name brand guys who contribute nothing. there was that one shift in the third where debrusk remembered he is a professional hockey player and he actually played like he wanted to do something. otherwise, we might as well have being playing 4-on-5. and boeser, love the guy but he’s back to playing like his dad is dying. the puck is just dying on his stick. and hopefully having a really stout bottom six makes up for the obvious holes in the top six.

the ideal scenario is probably something like

debrusk ep1 [acquisition]
suter [acquisition] hoglander
joshua chytil garland
doc bluegers sherwood

but man, how are we going to get that 2C and who’s got one? and can he be horvat, pretty please?
We lack any creativity and playmakers at F.

1-1 shootouts

3-10 in 3on3

It’s time to play a 1-2 with two D. Forget about open ice and offense. How about guard the fort and very little offense. We have F that are very bad defensemen when they need to be. Try to get to shootout. Let the other team circle around in center ice.

Turns out Petey is based and black pilled all along, he knows once the Norwood Reaper comes for you, it's OVER

Hronek has been incredible this year, he got hurt and the team isn't a goalscoring wagon with everyone having career years like last year, that's the only difference.

That is being very generous to Hronek, imo.

He had a very good October. Since then, he's lost his offense (which you've intimated), but is also not as defensively sound as he seemed in the beginning of 2023-24. IMO, Hughes has hidden a lot of what he is:

- His On-Ice xGA/60 is not at a top4 level (161st)
- His Rel xG% is not at a top4 level (145th) (V. Desharnhais is 146th)
- His opposition is good, but the quality of his teammates is excellent (77%/92%) (Hughes)
- Despite this, favourable deployment, his EV Offense has dipped below 50% (43%)

I think management has realized he couldn't carry the 2nd pair when they ran Hughes-Myers, and so traded for an upgrade in MPetey.

- ep2 was terrific - the young edler comparisons are spot on. hope he stays up and continues to get into games
- mp3 changes the dynamic of the defense - having both him and hughes in the lineup will be massive. hronek and myers round out what is suddenly a pretty nice top-4.
- liked chytil, but garland is a bad fit with him
- ep40 needs different linemates - it's not working with boeser and debrusk right now. but he's running out of excuses
- debrusk looks awful
