Add/trade for a legit upgrade in the top 6 and I believe this team, with the right timing/momentum, can make a run. EP40 and Boeser picking it up will be key, but they can do it.
 


Tonight’s Game
  • Controlled the game
  • New guys played well; Elias Pettersson, defenceman, played really well
Chytil
  • Played really good; controlled the play and wanted the puck
  • He’s a guy that can make plays off the rush
  • Good debut for him
Elias Pettersson (Defensive Mastermind)
  • They like him a lot
  • Played good tonight; has a heavy shot and is a thick guy; lot to build off
Sherwood
  • It’s hard to hit all the time; done a nice shop of finishing checks
Chytil & O’Connor
  • They have speed; need to have that to be a good rush team
  • Understand that they need to get off the wall and get the puck to the middle
  • Hope their play is contagious
First Line
  • Struggled in the first two periods but were better in the third
  • Had odd-man rushes but were missing the net and not connecting
  • Have to hit the net and make those moments count
O’Connor
  • Likes him with Sherwood; lots of speed and forechecking
  • Has a lot to work with; with his speed and willingness to take the puck to the interior, he’ll score goals
New Players Familiarity
  • Was traded a bunch of himself and when you go to a team and your new teammates look after you, it goes a long way
  • Their locker room has a bunch of guys that will take care of the new guys
Behind the Bench
  • Lots of smiling and excitement on the bench
  • Marcus Pettersson (Can I call him M-Petey? Meaty?) was terrific; will really stabilize their defence
  • Freshness with the team since the new players want to be here
Going Forward
  • Lots of games left and some guys that have not had the year they want but there’s plenty of games to turn the page
  • Have the trades over, for now, and reset the roster; let’s start at zero
  • Reset your brain, come out with a good attitude, and work hard
Suter
  • Can play him up and down the line-up; smart guy
  • Very rarely is out of position; utilizes angles well
  • Jackknife; use him for everything
  • When guys are struggling, can put him on the top-line
Hughes
  • Wanted to gut it out but wasn’t smart for him to play
  • Will see how he is in 48 hours
Soucy
  • Healthy scratch
  • Needs a reset; has had a tough go of it
  • Was a big part of the team last year and has been struggling a little bit
  • Need a bit more compete from him
  • Get more practice and some video with Foote

Already knew MP3 was a top pairing stud defenseman, but EP2 coming into this game looking like f***ing dahlin was ridiculous, he was everywhere and mistake free.

Defense going from hot garbage to pretty much dope af overnight is pretty, pretty cool. Still have two legits coming in Willander and Luca Mancini coming too, solid.

Wouldn't be mad if the team moved on from him at the end of the season. Problem is, who else is out there that's a better alternative?

Hard to remember a 20-year old d-man in the Canuck system, other than Quinn Hughes, who's come so far, so fast as Elias Pettersson II. He's only been in NA for half a season, but looks like he's a veteran d-man out there.

It can't be this easy, and undoubtedly he'll have his struggles......but as of right now, how do you sit him for the next game?

Another shit OT... lame. Refs had an agenda, like usual.

Can we just dump Soucy/Forbort/Juulsen already? EP2 looks better than those 3 stooges, and Mancini can't be worse than Juulsen.

Chytil was impressive.

Boeser... so disappointing. He used to be such a dangerous shooter, but now he's only good for skating slow and tipping pucks.

OG EP can step up any time now...

i am fine with tochett. i am just laughing at the way he sidesteps the fact the new guys made him look bad by going for a skate and showing how stale he's gotten things. he's been saying stuff like that for a few games now so i think he's aware and trying to change.

it happens. it's not fatal to a coach.

For sure, I am too. I don't think he deserves to be fired but wouldn't be opposed to moving on either if there's a good candidate

Boeser needs to be benched or sat out.
Debrusk is a bust..we don't need streaky goal scorers that score every 5 to 10 games..I still don't get this signing.
 
Here’s the problem with M.Pettersen, are you going to get the same M.Pettersen on his next bigger contract because last years contract year hronek isn’t the same as fat cheque hronek this year….players play to their full potential in contract years, then scale it back some now they got their money. Seen this movie over and over

Canucks did a lot of good things tonight, and took advantage of a tired Wings team to dominate the last period and a half.

But unfortunately they lost.....and fell another point off the pace in the wildcard race. Their OT record is now a horrid 3-10. If they end up packing up early in April, they'll be able to zero in on their OT record as one of the biggest reasons.

Hronek has been incredible this year, he got hurt and the team isn't a goalscoring wagon with everyone having career years like last year, that's the only difference.

They have to move Soucy sooner than later. They probably won't have to pay to dump him given the absolutely dearth of defensemen available, but freeing up his 3.25m is only going to add more cap flexibility next season for improvements up front, especially now that it looks like D-Petey is well on his way to taking his job.
