Best player on the ice tonight by the metrics. Kid looks cool as a cucumber.

They paid him the money to be Pete’s winger. He’s come as advertised: inconsistent, with no real ability to drive play himself, reliant on better players to create chances for him, 40-50pt player.

The real problem is the Canucks have no talent up front, the roster is predicated on Miller/Pete being the offensive engines there.

He's still on pace for a career high in goals and overall points.

But it's just not working with Pettersson for either player right now. You can't have 2 guys on the same line clutching their sticks.

Shouldn't get too down on this one. All the advance stats favour the Canucks by a lot. High danger chances were scored 14-2 in favour of Vancouver.

Not sure if D Petey has moved up the depth chart, but he played 16 minutes vs Juulson 11 minutes.

Under Tocchet they aren't competing. Soucy and Forbort are dp2 competition. Juulsen is competing with Mancini this year.

Could be an opportunity to move Soucy as the d Pete's have replaced him and Forbort can rotate in at 1/2 the price.

i have no idea what to say about the ot thing at this point

It's bad strategy and focus. It's like they treat it as a joke. I mean 3v3 ot and shootouts are stupid but the points are still important. It seems we just take chances whenever we get them and go for broke. We don't protect the puck or game to go to the shootout for a 50 50 chance. The goals we give up are usually lazy because we pushed too hard an don't have the back check covered. Another 4 or 5 points sure would be helpful right about now.

Some good news, D-Petey played a career high of 16:12 and nearly 4 minutes more than Juulsen.

Key thing for him is to become trusted as a penalty killer. Juulsen will have a spot on the roster purely for that ability.

Can we just slot him as a forward on the fourth line then? He can kill penalties to satisfy Tocchet's obsession, but not be a complete liability otherwise.

I mentioned it earlier but Juulsen actually played more shifts, D-Petey was just playing almost minute-long shifts. Probably not something you want to see from him every night.

So encouraged by the new guys plus D-Petey.
So discouraged by EP40. I don't think I've ever seen such promise turn into such frustration. It's been a year, supposedly during his prime. He just gets nothing done out there.
What do we do if in a month or two he still hasn’t improved?
What if he plays in the Four Nations (meaning he’s healthy enough to play in a gimmick tournament) and doesn’t make a dent there either?
