Haven't been able to catch any Kings games this year so far, but I love the look of Brown with 4g, 6pts in 4gp so far. Does it seem like his speed has come back a bit and he playing more like the Brown of old?

Brown's conditioning is, and has always been excellent. He doesn't look significantly faster IMO, just more effective and more powerful. Nearly all his goals have come from being planted in front of the net and getting tips and rebounds.

He can be an incredibly impactful player when playing well. Seeing him play this way has reminded us all of that. No way we're 3-0-1 right now with out him.

He's scoring, drawing penalties, hitting, creating turnovers, inadvertently agitating, winning puck battles, and amazingly never gets injured.

Conditioning has never been his issue I agree. However last couple of years he just didn't have that burst that he had earlier in his career and a large reason for his decline offensively, IMO. He had been noticably slower on pucks, not as a effective on forecheck and of course the hitting is down since he couldn't get to the spots to make the hits. Two knee surgeries though will do that, but will a couple of long summers he might have been able to work through some issues.

Brown has been my favourite NHL player since Palffy retired, I'm really glad to hear he is back in form. Hopefully I'll be able to watch tonight.

Incidentally, I think he's just doing less "thinking" out there. It's weird, because with Sutter's philosophy and system, it should minimize thinking as well and just knowing the process, so every action is instinctive and reactionary. However, for Brown, he is playing in a less systematic way while still relying on instinct.

It's probably also very liberating to know that it's okay if they get an interference penalty as long as they go to the net. Considering the PK has been stellar, I think that bolsters his confidence and comfort going to the front.

Great GDT Thanks!!! Looking forward to this one, Isles are usually fun!

Jim pointed out last night that Brown actually showed up to camp at 215 which is significantly heavier than usual (in a good way). So he's certainly more powerful and that part shows a bit. But he just looks confident and unrestrained, and has the freedom to actually carry the puck and make plays. Kopitar looks as dominant as ever, but Iafallo is an underrated key player on that line, he's got the uncanny Tanner/Trevor dogged puck pursuit and is getting his own confidence going too. It looks like there's finally a third musketeer to replace what's been missing for a bit from that line in Justin Williams.

Brown's issues have always been mental.

Hear a rumor that you may be traded? Go on an absolute 41 game tear, putting up a PPG and winning a Cup.

Rift with the coach? Shut down and become a shell of your former self.

Brown is and always will be a physical specimen. But he needs to be in the right frame of mind to play effectively. He needs to feel confident and useful and skilled. He was robbed of that during the rift with Sutter, hence his struggles.

Kuemper is indeed starting tonight. He did pretty well in the preseason so hopefully he can be better than Zatkoff last year. Although that was a pretty low bar...

This will be the last game Tavares plays at Staples in an Islanders uniform.

Should see a Kings win tonight, but always tough to play back-to-back.

Same issue for both teams, so let's see which team is into mentally at the start.
