Joshua - Hopefully it his bad off season that is leading to his dismal year. If this is what he is going forward, we've got another bad contract.

Joshua’s bad performance this season is the most predictable thing of all time. Months off given the cancer diagnosis and treatments for a notorious slow starter.. it’s entirely predictable.

Zero excuses for any of the other slow starters or underperformers.

Before the Flames scored the winner, I counted three turnovers, leading to extended zone time, and three icing calls.

Even when these d-men aren't under any pressure, they still can't find an open guy. It's basically off the glass and out; or off the boards and out....shift after shift after shift, It's little wonder they're generating next to nothing five-on-five.

Allvin created this mess. And he's the only guy who can fix it. But as one of the post-game show callers pointed out: "Maybe the Canucks are just the 2023-24 version of the New Jersey Devils. After a big breakthrough the year before, they came crashing back to earth last season.

Jack Hughes missed a ton of time; and the blueline collapsed when Dougie Hamilton went down for the entire season. Of course their goaltending was atrocious, so that's one area where the comparison with the Canucks doesn't stack up.

But sometimes, it's just not your year.

I hope not. We have little cap room, and you want to make a desperation trade, in which we will likely lose. Let me guess, you want to trade our disappointments for someone of value, and somehow make the cap hit work.

The best you can do is weather the storm, and hope we are healthy next year, or maybe even later this year, and we get our core healthy again. And get 2 - 3 ELC contributing. Willy, Lekk and one of EP2, Kruds, and Raty showing that they are NHL ready.

Then we will be a force to contend with.

There is no tank or retool. The die has been cast.

They will not tank with Hughes, but I don't see any reason they can't try to retool unless you're flat-out unwilling to do it. There are a bunch of pending UFAs and moveable contracts where you could most likely turn-over a bunch of roster spots and try again next year, plus possibly recoup some futures.

It's not that simple. Yes, we need a better effort, but we also have to accept the limitations of the players we're not forced to play in roles they simply aren't capable of. Look at how we lost to Seattle. 4-2 game where we clearly held play until Juulsen makes a boneheaded pizza pass to the middle of nowhere, Soucy tries (and fails) to push it out with a weak tap and bam, it's 4-3. Skipping ahead, we have Myers, someone who never plays OT, forced to step on and misplays his pass to Miller.

Both these scenarios don't happen if we have Hughes or Hronek. Hell, they're unlikely if we had a decent #3

That is the point though, we are not a well constructed roster, definitely not a Cup contender.

3 years of mgmt at the helm. Only 1 top 4 dman brought in all that time despite all the buyouts and futures cashed in for win now moves.

And they thought it was acceptable to put our cup dreams in the hands of VD/Forbort/Myers/Juulsen

We never were a cup contender.

They've acted like we are though. All of their moves are those of a team that believes they're in the middle of a window. A patient slow rising team doesn't buyout players, constantly trade picks to dump dead weight, sign old players to long contracts and buy rentals.

I didn't want them to go all in when they took over because they had virtually no margin of error with this path, whereas a slower burn was a much easier path to contention, but that option has long since passed. We're committed to competing now whether we actually are a contender or not. So they deserve to be judged by that standard because that's what they chose.

It's been repeated so often, that it's past being just a boring cliche--but you can't keep replacing three or four d-men every year through the UFA market or the waiver-wire, and expect to be competitive.

If you're not graduating at least one or two prospect d-men every season, you're in a world of trouble. When Zadorov walked, and the Canucks were forced to bring back Myers, you knew things wouldn't end well. Forbert, Juulsen, Brannstrom and Soucy, the way he's playing this year, are barely above 'replacement level'.

The Canucks finally have some d-men in the pipeline who show some promise, but they're not ready yet. Even with Hughes and Hronek in the lineup, their blueline is barely adequate. Without them, it's a black hole.

I believe tocchet wanted some of these dmen and they obliged, tocchet said on tnt he likes big dmen, I just get the vibe they made these signings at the request of tocchet and that likely needs to stop. Tocchets not the easiest guy to play for though so its hard to get him players if he wont like them either.

Tocchet has his issues, but it's also true that asking more out of this defense is sort of like demanding Dimbo to complete a crossword puzzle.

Thank god I had a new years get-together lined up and didn’t have to watch this team with the blueline they’re icing.

Injuries have f***ed us and management needs to seriously consider throwing this season away to better prepare for future seasons.

We’re currently in a soft part of the schedule and have gone 0-2 against weak teams without Hughes, and the schedule gets brutal one week from now. And Tyler f***ing Myers is our #1 dman until… who knows?

Canucks are close to a one-man team as there is in the entire NHL. With Hughes they have some hope---without him, they're a lottery team.

I sense that Allvin has his trigger finger on some sort of blockbuster. Wouldn't shock me if guys like Miller and maybe even Demko don't finish the year in Vancouver.

This core is not getting anywhere. Way too inconsistent. I don't mind if it gets blown up now.
At this point, the only player they can consistently rely on is not even locked in long term, and might not re-sign due to personal choice once his contract is up.
