It was a marginal soft call but most of the calls were. Why did he feel the need to touch that player who didn't even have the puck?

Exactly. A lot of people bitching about the call obviously don't understand hockey. Myers went out of his way to crosscheck another player squarely from behind two feet from the boards on a stagnant play with 40 players, 4 refs, and an entire arena watching that very moment.

What a moronic play and a penalty any day of the week. Just absolutely brain dead. Especially with 4 minutes left the microscope is on. You have to avoid stupidity like that as a player no matter how hard or soft it is. It's irrelevant, you simply don't do needless stupid shit like that unless you want to lose. What an oaf!

Tonight’s Game
  • Didn’t like the way they played in the 1st period
  • Responded well in the 2nd
  • Need to lock it down when ahead 2-0
  • Referee saw something different than him on the Myers penalty
  • Started to skate and win more battles in the 2nd
  • Mistake on the 1st goal against and a fluky powerplay goal got Utah back in the game
Joshua
  • Today was a step in the right direction
  • Really moved his feet and hopefully he can build off it
Powerplay
  • Just trying different things right now
  • Had some chances and wasn’t too bad

Yeah would've been nicer to get 2 points in regulation, but there were games that infuriated me FAR more, like that f***ing Boston game. Though I guess it was entirely possible that our limp dick effort in that game was due to players fighting the flu.

Tocchet post game didn't even reach 90 seconds.

This man cannot practice what he preaches.

He has been silenced obviously, probably from Management or ownership

Because there's no Canucks media on the road, Tocchet's away post-game press conferences have been very short. Usually about two minutes long.

Tocchet post game saying the ref is a good guy. Come on, the head coach needs to have his team's back and stop kissing the league and ref's assess. It's honestly embarassing.

AV would never do that
Its kinda sad that you have to play this mental gymnastics so the mob doesn't come after ya ala Tyler Myers.

Thought all 6 calls were marginal. The Myers call with 4 minutes left was awful. League should be ashamed and accountable for this stuff. Not expecting it to change in my lifetime. Sad really

Decent game but some weird things going on with the 12million dollar man reduced to PP2 and Sasson Brannstrom and Desharnais on the ice with him. Looked bad in OT.

Neither 40 or Miller took the game over or were consistently backing the opposition off which has been pretty much all season. (I did miss the Avalanche game)

Line combinations were odd and team looks slow. Missed a bunch of chances to seal the deal

Beauty goal from Joshua. Needs to get back with Garland.

NHL is still a bush league

Myers was terrible for most of the game. It's amazing to me that a guy whose been in the NHL for as long as he has can't make a good pass 50% of the time. In skates, too far behind, or too far ahead for the guy to even pick it up. His best play is off the boards and out, which unfortunately just gives it back to the other guys.

Was it not Tocchet who called out the reffing earlier last year and then the refs threw a hissy fit for a few games against the Canucks? NHL refs are giant babies when it comes to criticism
You’re not supposed to call them out in the media, you’re supposed to lose your shit during the game away from the mic/media and then play it cool post game.

Tocchet did the opposite.

Hoglander with Miller, and Garland back with Joshua pls. For whatever reason that was broken up after 8 minutes in the Boston game.

Garland and Miller just seem redundant together, and Hogs is on a different frequency from the 'best 3rd line'

Yup. And it's not anything new to Myers either. It's not as if he hasn't had these kinds of calls against him before at the end of games but it doesn't seem to be registering with him to do something different

Like, can we be a bit realistic here?
There is obviously something going on behind the scenes that absolutely none of us know what is going on.
The Vibes and feeling of this team is completely off.
I have watched 1000's of Canucks games, I don't remember a season like this.
It's not like it's "Bad" It's just weird.
And a big part of it has 2 due with this back and fourth "Drama" With Petey and Miller and the fanbase.

Hard to win consistently when 3/6 d men belong in the AHL. Id like to see stats on Pettersson's deployment w hughes and without hughes. Im convinced that coach is using him to baby sit the d zone when Hughes isnt on the ice to neutralize the effects of VD and brannstrom. To me he looks far more capable of surviving with a weak d pair behind him than Miller does and this is killing a lot of his offence. When Miller was out Petey was producing...could it be he had more Hughes time?

Brannstrom looked pretty good for a small stretch, I can now see why he was unloaded from other orgs.

Some good, some bad. Another weak, game management call hurts the team. Horrible first and maybe getting a point after that, wasn't that disappointing.

Good

Pettersson - had an outstanding game. Best wheels he has shown in a long time. Was very good defensively and broke up play after play. Made some nice set ups and is shooting the puck a little more. After watching him tonight have to think twice about trading him. That said, you wonder how easily he'll slip back into being the very ordinary and very unfocused player we have seen too often.

Garland - one of his best plays was getting back on the 3 on 1 against when the Canucks had the PP. Didn't have the finish but in the first half of the game was about the only thing the team had going. Every game, great two way hockey

Sherwood - another strong effort in every zone. Good to see that Tocchet recognized he needed to be out in OT rather than some others.

Heinen - had enough good shifts to end up on the positive side of the ledger. Heinen and his line did estabish some good o-zone time as the game went on and he scored a nice goal.

Demko - not perfect but with out his early play team gets beat.

Bad

Miller - just making brain dead plays. Maybe needs more time away. Hurt the team in this game by forcing plays. Needs to let the play come to him and not be so individualistic. Seemed out of sync with the other players. Needs to take a step back and not try to be super man. Just work the system. Head is not in the right place and really hasn't been all season.

Boeser - not awful in OT (although you had to be nervous with him on the ice given his recent OTs) but in the run of the play looked very much like the old Boeser in terms of skating. Seemed off balance making plays and taking passes and was sluggish (especially in the first two periods.) You can't be dumping a lot money on him if he remains the non factor he has been of late. Early season head shot likely a factor here.

Desharnais - got caught up the ice way too often allowing for 2 on 1s and breakaways. Him and Hughes did not work at all, when they ended up being out together. Get a little from him now and then but overall not an NHL player. Team has little option but to suffer along with him and try to mitigate the damage.

Hoglander - 2 goals now in 31 games. Fall off has been incredible and just a danger in the heart for this team. Can't overstate how ineffectual he has been. Those believing he would be picked up on waivers are living in La la land. What do you want moving ahead - Hoglander or the 3+ in gap space.

Others

Juulsen - when compared with some of the other d-men, Juulsen comes off looking pretty good. However, that says more about our defense than is does about Juulsen. Has reached a level of play where you could see him as decent 7th and, in a pinch, 6th d-man. Maybe that a liitle optomistic but Juulsen is doing a creditable job ATM.

Sassons - play is dieing on his stick too much. Obviously too high in the lineup and kind of falling to earth. Given his play in Abby, which was better than middle of the road but not crying out for elevation, his play has been an overall surprise. But, IMO, he is not there yet.

Can say the team is managing their losses but this was one was a bad call and a fluke goal away from getting another point.

C'mon now.
Tocc isn't a challenge that needs hand holding. He's choosing to be scared and soft with a media that gives him softballs.
I dono man, even some of the media is wondering wtf is going on recently with the post interviews, let's just keep an eye on it

To me long shifts are selfish, even if the player’s intentions are good. If you don’t have enough energy to back check hard then don’t stay on for another rush offensively in 3v3 OT. Trust your teammates and let them try with fresher legs instead. As a teammate I’d be pretty pissed if I was on the bench and witnessing that.

Tocchet’s explanation for the new powerplay lines are fair enough but usually teams only do stuff like this for maybe 5 games max before going back to loading up a top unit. If it lasts longer than that while the powerplay isn’t producing results then I think it’s safe to assume that this isn’t just a hockey thing…

That Myers call was garbage, that type of stuff goes uncalled every game.

He was given multiple questions, all open ended and decided to give one sentence answers.

Number of media does not matter. He had 5+ questions and gave no answers

He's choosing to duck questions. It's soft as hell.

Unfortunately Demko should have had the last two. Sucks because he played great the rest of the game.

Needed to bury one of their many chances in OT, and Miller maybe shouldn’t have made that play with 15 seconds left.

2nd goal sucked, but it was fluky AF. Not sure how Demko can really be blamed on that one. It was a deflection that popped into the air and dropped down into the net.
